Hey guys I have a question for my Royal collection hybrid set up

I recently bought a Royal collection TD+ 13 deg. hybrid head and I was hoping to set a club like Anothny Kim's

 

Utility. I did a little research on him and found out that he might be using Matrix altus hybrid and have no idea

 

what length he is using. He told the Golf Digest Mag that is half inch longer than standard but I have no idea

 

what is the standard length for a 13 deg utility and also the swing weight for that club.

 

Another question is I am currently use a Matrix ozik f7m2 44.5 inch for my driver and usually goes for 250 and

 

my blades go for 3~9 D3 SW and P D4 also using a RC TD+ 19 deg utility as well. Thinking of setting both my

 

utilities Matrix. So the 2 types I can choose from the maker will me Altus Hybrid or the Xcon Hm2's. I was

 

thinking Strong flex for the 13 deg and X-stiff for the 19 would that be good enough or too strong. I would love

 

to go with the Hm2's because of the full zylon that will make it extra smooth but haven't found any review that

 

suits for me and also twice the price. Will the altus will be good enough for my settings or should I make a big

 

investment of the Hm2's.

13 degree hybrid is like a strong 3 loft. Would you think a bit shorter than a 3 wood length should do the trick? I just put a 19.5* Geotech hybrid head on with a shaft pulled from a 5 wood. The length now is 42.125" long and since the head is not designed for this length (normal is 40.5 to 41" max) the SW is a heavy D9 (which is completely off compared to the rest of the set at D1.)

 

Would you be using the 13* hybrid as a 3 wood replacement? I carry a 16.5 deg 4 wood so I am hoping to use the 19.5* at the extra length as my 5 wood replacement. I know it does not answer your question but SW might comes in the equation when you consider the length.

Just check the RC site and they dont make a 13* TD+. The lowest loft is a 17*.

Sonartec which was the U.S. version of Royal Collection had a 13 degree MD hybrid for tour use only. I would assume that this is the same reason why this 13 degree hybrid exists.

It's legit tour head.. I've thought about picking up one of those on many occasions. Haven't hit that model though. I would think you'd want to play it in the 42 to 42.5" range. The Altus hybrid shafts are nice. Are you going to do the work yourself? Maybe you could go see a club fitter/maker that sells Oziks and get some recomendations as to length/flex etc.

Well I couldn't find a Matrix dealer in New Jersey so doing a little research before I do anything. I was thinking since the 17 deg goes for 40 inches and extendes 0.5 inches more each 2 lofts that lessens, 13 will be 42 inches. If I go to standard length that I think is standard for the 13deg I should + .5 inch if the lie of the utility will allow. I hope the lie is fit for the 13deg head.

 

anyways anyone has a opinion with whether I should go with Just altus hybrid or Hm2's. I hope Hm2 is worth the money.

Grafaloy C-Note, is a good Hybrid shaft IMO

well what kind of ballflight and shots are you trying to hit with your hybrids? altus hb and hm2 have different playing characteristics and ballflights.

 

altus hybrids throw the ball way up in the air, bassara hybrid shafts are very underrated (they are not as noodly as the wood shafts), if you want to keep it low, the 904hb is a stiff shaft.

 

but unless your driver is giving you terrible spin numbers, hitting your drives 250 does not warrant the need for an x-stiff shaft for your hybrid.

 

is there a particular reason you are going with a 13 degree hybrid and ozik combo? Just bad luck with fairway woods? Or is it the Anthony Kim affect? The reason I ask is you will take a dive on getting that head and installing a brand new hm2 to realize that you don't have the swing to handle the club. Not saying you don't, but it would be an expensive project.

Thx for the advice. I admit that since Anthony Kim is using the set up I was interested what would it be like to use a steep loafted utility. I don't have a problem with my 3 wood but it would be really nice to have a penetrating flight with a 3 wood distance so I do know it is a BIG investment even it is only a hybrid. Usually this amount of money should be spent on a Driver.

Also thx for the insight for Altus hybrid. I do have a Speeder 904h on my 19 deg utility and it works perfectly fine but I just like the steel shafted nspro. I was looking for a high launching shaft so I guess the matrix shafts will be a good match.

Well I do understand 13 degree is a hard loft to use but, golf is fun and equipment is actually 50% of my fun for the game. Practice will make perfect ( I hope haha ).

 

p.s. Have anyone could tell me the flight difference between the Altus hybird, 8h tour and the Hm2's
