Pro Preference Model Irons

I play these for about two weeks and play a different set for a couple of rounds. The PPM's go back in the bag for another couple of weeks. It cycles over and over.

 

The PPM's are the "easiest" clubs to hit I have ever owned. They adapt to ever lie, every shot, everything you can throw at them. Most versatile = easiest. Every person that hits these irons agree they are the softest irons they have ever hit. They have been taking on some excellent contenders and are still in the bag.

Had another 18 holes with this set (PPM)and this is to reconfirm that this is by far the best set of irons that I have ever owned. Easy to hit and best feel among other forge iron out there. I would advise anyone just to give it a try (do not have to buy it, but just try it (give it at least 10 swings to be fair)). If you do not like it just give some feedback here. I would love to hear the other side of this as well but from my side there are only positive comment for now. By the way my set is in Black and thinking about getting another.

Just my opinion here, I think that some of the negativity of responses comes from the quick dismissal of other opinions and also what was perceived as a cheap shot at Joe. All of that being said, the PPM irons, although very beautiful in appearance and soft in feel, seem to target a very specific,limited group of players, ie- those that play in specific turf conditions, tend to sweep their irons rather than drive down into them agressively & don't mind shelling out quite a bit of money for irons. All of that being said, I personally did not like the irons as it was somewhat difficult to manipulate trajectory on a few shots out of specific turf conditions as I tend to hit down very firmly and hit a trap-draw with my shorter irons and these tended to upshoot a bit in the breeze FOR ME. I am glad that you found a set that you like and works well for you, just remember that as in cars and women, people have their preferences in clubs and just because you like something doesn't mean everyone else will. :drinks:

I couldn't agree more. That's why regardless of what irons you play the most important thing to do is be fitted properly. Have the clubs checked for proper specs. I found the Niimi's lie angle more upright than I expected. Surprised me. Also ebay has a pretty good price for these right now. Remember there are only 200 total sets.

 

Mitchell, I wonder if the shafts were stiff enough for you. Not many of these came out with X flex shafts. What did you think about the softness, what shafts did they have?

Shafts were the old Brunswick Rifle 6.0, which I use in all my irons, just really did not like the feel of turf interaction, was not able to hit down and trap them as easily as some sets. As far as the feel of irons on flush hits, they were definitely pure, not on par with my old Miz TN-87 & Founders 200s , but definitely not far off.

Isn't the purpose of a channel in the sole to give the user a variety of bounce options when playing a shot? i.e. opening the face in a bunker to expose more bounce, or to play the face square and have little or no bounce. Since you never really play an explosion shot with your irons what is the point of the grind? Ok maybe a 40 yard bunker shot with a 9 iron, but for everything else I don't really see the point. If the trailing edge had significantly more bounce than the leading edge, I could see the leading edge getting very close to the turf (which is visually appealing) but the club would play horrible due to the back end slamming on the ground and de-lofting the thing. IMO it's a beautiful club, but not for me.
