Issues...Help me out

I got my 909 recently, and although it feels great, it spins alot more than when I tried a demo (might have just been the balls i used there) and it also feels very whippy...anyways I've got this super high launch driver that keeps climbing, if I were to guess the spin rate i'd say it was in the mid-low 3000s, as I'm not losing a great deal of distance but it just isn't that penetrating ball-flight i was looking for. I've been thinking of putting a YS-6 into it as I had some success with that in a 905R. What do you guys think? I'm looking for a shaft that i can get from work for under $100 (so prob max $200-250ish retail)

you have some personal success with the ys-6, but i don't think that will solve your problems. the bb you have in the 909 now is considered to be a lower launching/spinning shaft. keep you eyes peeled on the bst or on ebay. do a quick search on LOWEST LAUNCHING/SPINNING SHAFTS - good thread that will have the info you are looking for. there a lot of decent ones out there!

The ys-6 is quite high spin too. Sounds like it might just be playing a bit weak to flex as is. I'd be thinking of

 

Getting it spec'd out by an expert, see what flex really is. If it is weak to flex i'd get in contact with Titleist maybe, not sure how they are to deal with. Maybe they might work with you.

 

Personally i would be either tipping 1/2 and extending back to length if not, maybe look at a PL Red if need be etc.

Just noticed the "from work" bit. I'd look at the new Axivcores too in that case, either red or black. Hip shaft with good reviews.

I can do a frequency test at work to check if it's at the right frequency. Does anybody know what it is for the Titleist BB shaft...or what range i should be looking for??

The Titleist BB isn't what I would call a low spin/low launch shaft...the real BB is closer to that, but I think the Titleist BB is pretty middle of the road. I think the YS-6 is considered to be a higher launcher but lower-spinning shaft (Actually its specs are fairly close to a real BB (3.5* torque, mid-high kick-point...the Titleist BB has 4.4* of torque!!!)

The Titleist Blueboar is a high launch/mid-high spin mofo. That was my experience with it, anyway. Yank it and put a real BB in there or like someone else suggested throw a UST Axivcore in it. Both will drop your spin and you should be a lot happier.

The YS-6 spins a lot, I have that in my dirver and looking to change, thinking of putting in an Xcon.

 

Do you guys think that going down in loft might help?

Going down in loft will reduce spin but, I'm sure you know, it will decrease launch angle. The xcon will spin a lot less than the ys-6.

I have to agree with above post regarding the Prolaunch Red if you want to bring down the flight. I had the same problem with my old 905r. Changed the shaft to PL wich produced a much lower and penetrating flight. Play the same now in a g10 and wouldn't change a thing. It doesn't cost a whole lot either.

Try a Graphite Design Pershing. It's lower spin and launch compared to the YS-6. I found them as cheap as $35 new and uncut on e-bay in the past. Had one in my 907D2 and 906F4. Great shaft for the price.

I don't know much about the xcon-6 that is made for Titleist. I assume it is lower spin than the ys-6 but don't know for sure. Like someone else mentioned, if you like GD, the Pershing can be found cheap and it's pretty low spin and mid launch. Pretty good shaft too.

Isn't the D3 harder to hit and less forgiving, or is that just a bunch of BS

I found the D3 to be as easy to hit as the D2, in fact I hit the middle of the face more consistently for some reason and the ball flight was better, definitely lower but not flat. And I'm a 12 index with a 92 ss.

It's a bunch of BS. The D3 is as easy to hit as any driver out there. It's not real fade biased either as some have said.

The Pershing sounds good! Especially if it feels like the YS-6. I might also look at the AxivCore series, but i don't know if they've been released in Oz yet...Um, and to the D3 question...I don't know, I didn't find that much difference in spin/launch when I tried them

I had the same problem. When at the range testing the club out it had a good boring trajectory and lots of roll like my 905T with a Grafalloy Blue. Get on the course and the trajectory is way too high without too much roll. I have been alternating between the Pro V1 and Pro V1X...a little better results with the V1X.

 

Anyway dropped the club off with the neighborhood club doctor to get a Fujikura Rombax Z (6Z08) installed. Hopefully it's nice enough Friday for me to hit it.

I did think about the Rombax Z series...just could be a touch too expensive. One other question guys, wat do the AxivCore's feel like? Are they a little boardy like the V2??

Just found out it will not be ready until Saturday, which sucks because tomorrow was supposed to be halfway decent, but next week it may never get above freezing...was hoping for a little range time with it before I head to Florida. So it may be a couple of weeks before I get to hit it.
