Hadn't seen this video until just now. Funny coincidence: In an effort to continue my 9-3 practice I went to the range yesterday and started doing this "Y" thing. It really worked well.

 

Question for you experts: In doing this, I found much more consistent divots and ball flight by firming up my grip. (I shy away from the word "tighten". I'd say I went from about 4.5/10 to about 8.0/8.5 out of 10.) I also felt I was more aware of where the shaft and clubhead were in the swing. I actually started hitting a slight draw with my 3W and driver which is something I've never done.

 

I've read a lot about grip tension on this site and steadfastly avoided too much of it my whole golfing life, but it seemed to "knit" my "Y" (forearms, shoulders and hands) together. Does this make sense? Is getting older and having a more sedentary job causing this need, or was it a one-day fluke at the range?

 

I've found more success with firming up the last 3 fingers of my left hand (lead) and every other finger including those on right hand being much more relaxed. this helps prevent my right hand from dominating but somehow gives me a right to left ball flight. my RH roll still creeps in now and then too early and its something i'm trying to fix. Have a hunch a totally no hands pivot Y through ball will produce a slight fade.

 

keeping forearms close together ala 5 lessons sure sounds good. i know SF teaches that too.

Will Phil be allowed to come back as long as he doesn't advertise? sure could use his help explaining his method. w/o Phil's insights its kinda like what Chris Rock said - you can drive with your feet, doesn't mean its to be done. His method sure seems to be helping people.
