A possible "Classic Golf" Forum?

I haven't really got a response yet from the marshals. They do an outstanding job here at Golfwrx, I hope they would listen to what we would like. We'll leave it up to them, its their site and I respect their judgement. I've been a wrxer for about 5 years now and am a huge fan of this site. We'll see what happens. Spring time is right around the corner and I'm getting psyched to hit the links real soon. I'm glad we got a real good amount of positive responses from Mr. Smith's poll question. There have been a lot of good topics around classics, old school gear, ect over the last year which has really brought me back. The topics really seem to bring a lot of enthusiasm and passion to the screen, I feel.

I've got a suggestion for the cut off date: maybe '93 or '94 ish. '93 is the last year anyone wins a major with a persimmon wood (Langer at the Masters), and '94 gets you the last of Hogan's Ft. Worth production.

mjtoal. good one. I don't think the Hogan secret would come up. Its been discussed so many times here. LOL. I think the topics would be more less technical, like archictects, clubs, courses, old tournaments, i.e old masters tournaments and such.

I agree the swing discussion would stay in the swing forum. I hope this goes through.

We have forums to cover courses, classic discussions on players, etc. The Classic forum that would be created would be centered around classic equipment and restoration. The other forums cover all other topics and would not be buried in one or two days so the need is less.

One thing that bugs me big time about modern equipment is that great sound of persimmon off the balata is gone. Like the crack of a wooden bat in the MLB taken away.

 

I taped this today, it was about 49 to 50 and it was pretty glorious at the ol' course.

 

Good rip with the persimmon driver and a Titleist balata. I think I even threw in a Faldo move at the very end. (not on purpose) :D

I would very much like to see a classic forum. I suggested this to the moderator a few months back but it did not seem to register. I

have 4 or 5 bags full of old Macgregor , Hogan, Powerbuilt and Golfcraft woods and take some of them to the range on occasion to

compare them to my current equiptment. Distance wise on good hits there is surprisingly not that much difference but boy the old

classics sticks are not near as forgiving... I played many of these clubs in the 60's, 70's and 80's so its not much of a chore to hit them.

At the range every once and a while some of the younger guys ask if they can hit a few shots with them. It turns out to be

somewhat of an ego deflater for them..... I consider the classic era as running from 1950 to 1960 or maybe the early 60's ( the oil hardened era

of the higher grade persimmon) Would be interested on others thoughts along this line....

Please clarify your post. Are you agreeing to create a Classic Golf forum but propose limiting the threads to classic equipment and restoration? Is it your position that there are already other forums where non-equipment topics could be posted and nothing would be gained by allowing non-equipment threads to be created in this "new" Classic Golf forum?
