2009 taylormade tp forged irons jdm

boys, boys let's not get all huffy over what you play :angry2: . Be it GI or player's clubs. BTW what do the pros use????? The key is how you handle them. Some of my friends laugh at guys who can't carry more than 5 iron :cheesy: , but hey if you can stick a hybrid close from 160, then YOU ARE DA MAN :golfer: . It's how many and not how. I actually am not a long hitter, I am good, but I certainly don't knockem out there with the big hittas. But get this.....I prefer blades...why??? I don't know but I hit them more consistently than say x forged. Perhaps it's the feedback, weight..Anyhow I play Apex 50s better than everything else that I have tried.... Crazy, but screw the GI vs player's arguement. It's what the old indian wants to use.... :beach:

But back to the thread....If TourSpecs has the balls to charge massive yen for JDM clubs, one should be able to call the spec shots maybe for an upcharge, but at least give the dude what he wants...Otherwise, DCIMAN :scotty: , buy just the heads and have a real expert like Darren at Kepler's in Walnut Creek, CA :superman: set you up with what ever shaft you want....Long Live the 4 hybrid!!!! Just kidding REAL GOLFERS use 3 irons...Just kidding again..Real golfer don't care and score low!!!!!! (cool)

I tried buying heads only but TSG will not sell them that way. I bought my set just for the heads as I prefer DGSL shafts but they were not a option for special order.

NICE!!, congrats!!!

can you be a bit more descriptive re: your "sculpted" comment..

the '08's seem more rounded in the cavity and these look more like solid lines and angles from the pics.. can you comment?

also,, how do they feel compared to the '08's..???

is the finish a polished chrome like blades? the 08's are more satin in the face and sole,, and just around the cavity is polished.. what are these like??

thanks!!

They have less rounded look to them everywhere. There is a slight crease right below the top of the triangle in the cavity, kind of a cool asthetic thing probably more of looks than function. Toe is definitely more square. Offset is less throughout the set it seems. The head seems slightly smaller heal to toe, something I wanted since I ditched the 08's for my mizuno's because I liked the smaller heal to toe dimension. Feel is good, not too different from 08's. They are both solid clubs with slight modifications for looks and the smaller head will probably be better for when you are hitting out of the rough. The finish is polished chrome. Very bling blinging but subtle since there is only the TP badge and no TP logo. The entire back is the polished look except for right where the triangle area meets the cavity back, that is a little flat. If you liked the 08's you will love these if you are looking for a little less offset, more squared off and slightly smaller head. turf contact is nice too. Glides through the ground and takes nice divots. But of course those things can very depending on the swing and the turf conditions.

tourspec says they are a "nickel satin" finish..you know on the 08's how the face and sole were a satin finish??? well on yours (09) is the face and sole polished chrome??

i like the finish of my 08's cuz they don't show bag wear as much as my other polished chrome finishes..

thanks!!

Hey Gang, need to verify something.

I have been told that the 2008 TP Forged (r7 TP Forged at Tourspec golf) were not issued with a seriel number on the hosel of the 5 or 6 Iron. To those who actually have a set please confirm. (not those who are making an assumption or guess, no matter how educated).

Thanks

Just like any other TM irons, the serial number is only on the 7 iron.

I have a set of 08 TP forged, and my serial is only on the 7 iron.

Hey Gang,

I do believe that these may be the best Forged Iron for a Mid-Handicap (me) out there.

  • They are one of the few forged irons to have a little more offset than most Players Irons.
  • It has a web hosel instead of a sling hosel like most GI Irons (the later is uncomfortable visually for me).
  • Top line isn't too thick, but the head is a little bigger than my MacG Pro C.

The only other Forged Iron I can think of close is the Mizuno MP52.

The Irons are now having the lie adjusted so when I get them back, the real test will begin. I was hitting the MacG Pro C o.k., except when I got to the 5 Iron. I hope and believe these are the answer. Now if only I could change that shiny chrome look . . .

I purchased the original R7 Forged Limited's from TSG and they do not have a serial number on the hosel. I also purchased a set of 08 TP Forged from a Online Europe retailer and they also had no serial number. I was told by "taylormade" that if the set was put together in Europe no serial, if put togther from the plants then they have a serial.

Has anyone played this clubs in japan standard specs 1/4 short? If so, can you comment on how much distance was lost?

so what's up?? are you losing distance?? club length is now a factor?? you mentioned before that 1/4" was not a problem for you, and now you are posting this?? what are your findings??

i'd imagine if the club was 1/4" short, you'd probably lose 5 yds or so,, but more importantly, how does the short cluba affect your ball flight?

I was just wondering if anyone was playing these stock japan specs? If so, what is there distance loss? My clubs are at The Golf Lab getting lofts/lies adjusted.

I normally play my clubs 1/4" shorter so they are perfect right out of the box. I haven't adjusted the lies since I normally play them 2* flat but figure I would play them for a while first and see a typical pattern to my ball flight before altering them. I don't think I lost any distance with irons 1/4" shorter than typical clubs. I play off a PW at 140 yards. All irons increase in yardage by 10 yards ie. 9 = 150 8 = 160 etc. Proper length and quality of contact are more important than 1/4".

DAMN,, you hit your irons far!!! judging by the fact you plat 1/4" sort in length, you must not be a very big guy,, and to produce those distances..well.. WOW!! that's far!!

Wow that's alot of paint banter.Seems like you guys know more about equipment than Taylor Made CS.!!! And I am equally impressed by your bags!! Moneyshot are you sponsored?? or just Crazy about TM?? DCIMan why are you called that??? You should be Captain Quandry...I can never say that this chain sucks as it has been a very enjoyable read...

OK please let the readers know your handis to further validate this post. Basically it's fact (playa) or fiction time (clubho). I would think you are all between 0-8. Otherwise for the sake of the game invest in lessons and not paint.

ok,, back to topic,, seems like only like 2 people have gotten these to date that are posting,,, i'm a bit surprised as these have been shipping already and we're only getting 2 people to speak up.. No pics from anyone.. i was on the fence with these,, but i think i might just stick with my mp-62's and my 2008 tp forged japan as backups.. i was hoping there'd be "r9" hype with these,, but i guess not..

Pics aren't going to be any better than the ones you have already seen on TSG etc. You don't buy clubs because everyone else wants them, you buy them because they are aesthetically pleasing to you and make you feel confident. If you already have the 2008 model you could probably just hold off until something more radical comes in the future but for those who missed out on the 2008, these are just slightly different and to some people like myself, more pleasing to the eye.
