HELP!!!!! I HATE DRIVER SPIN

well the title says it all. I have a 10.5 905r with a ys-6 and love it and I also just got a 9.5 sumo 5000 with a fuji speeder. I cant seem to get my spin down i always balloon my drives. im losing a lot of distance. I have always been a little steeper than most but ive been working out lately and got my SS up and now it just baloons more. should I try a different shaft I dunno what to do or should i try and fix my swing.

First off, is it a stock Speeder? I would guess it is... Second, yes I would request a different shaft because, in my opinion, speeder is stanky. lol. What are your swing specs? Swing speed and all that stuff. I have the 5000 with a Mitsubishi Bassarra 63x shaft and I love it... Nice boring ball flight that rolls out. So, my guess would be that it's just the incorrect driver, shaft combination.

flatten out the swing and try to it the ball on the upswing.

 

A steep swing just adds spin.

 

Imagine the bottom of the arc 6 inches behind your ball and then the club head arcing up to the ball.

I agree, it looks like the bottom head on the top pick has a chunk out of the top line.

If you look at bit more closely you can see that the towel is just overlapping the topline...

 

 

Try a cheap shaft replacement like the aldila NV, or VS proto. They can be had a on ebay for cheap.

I heard the basara was a good shaft I dont have a lot of money i just recently got this nike for cheap and I like the feel but its just the spin. is the basara inexpensive and what else is a less expensive low spin shaft

I have had this problem for the past few years. I worked on flattening out my swing and rencently picked up a Callaway FT-9 Tour 9.5 WB 73 S. Launch and spin have been fixed.

ya i heard the whiteboards were good for killing spin. I think I need to move to an x flex though also. I dont know if that means the shaft is more expensive or not

Well if you are complaining about spin we need to know what it is. Also BS is more useful than swingspeed

the spin is around 3200 so thats pretty high im guessing I dont know???? I couldnt tell you what the ball speed was sorry. I dont know a whole lot about ideal launch and spin and stuff I just hit it and find its just lately the ball balloons up

Well there's your problem, 10.5^o and a high moi heads are going to increase spin. Go put a high kickpoint shaft in a low spinning head (like a protopype in a j33r 460) and check out your #'s

IMO Fix your swing first and then find a good combo to help it some more if needed...This way you don't try to compensate on your equipments only without realizing your swing is more important for long term fix with more enjoyment on the golf course.

 

What is the use of fixing the number only if you end up hitting a hard club to keep your ball in the FW and has no feel?, especially when you are getting tired on your round.

 

Fitting is not about 1 good hit only, It's all about keeping it in play day in day out at your maximum potential according to your skill level. Not every one need lower spin driver if skill level can't support it. Try to be realistic...more spin=straighter ball vice versa, so find your realistic balance to get your maximum potential to enjoy this game.

 

Bare in mind handicap is not the only measurement of skill IMO.

 

Just my 2 cents!

Joe, i'm not quite sure what we'd do without your sage. Every golfer needs one of you to be a realist in their game when they are out looking at clubs!

Back to OP post, if you have a steep attack angle, that's part of the problem right there. A good head/shaft combo would help, but I don't think it would fix the problem. As stated above, yes, Whiteboards are phenomenal at killing spin, I used to play one before it busted . However, those are pretty expensive shafts too, but if you're looking for something a bit cheaper, I think the Aldila NV would help out a bit, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, which is why this is a great site.

I know its my swing and I know I can fix it, its just annoying when I feel like I put a great swing on it and it goes shooting up in the air killing distance. my scores have not gotten higher, but thats mainly because all i work on is my short game, I would just like to see my driver have a boring ball flight. Im just gonna keep working on it and see what happens. I guess I just need to go to the range and work on flattening it out a little bit.

Cool, yea its high relative to your launch. You would want to raise launch too so getting a WB or rombax Z I don't think is advisable.

There are millions of golfers who put too much spin on their drives,

 

And there are a few dozen who do the same thing on the PGA Tour- but they choose to match their equipment to their swing.

 

You don't have to listen to the crowd that says you have to change your swing or else...

 

Some golfers are able to adjust their driver swings to accomplish the flight you desire, and some are not. If you are not able to adapt your swing to your equipment, it is OK to adapt your equipment to your swing.

 

If you do not have the money, find a spin-killing driver on Ebay, such as the Bridgestone J33r 460 in a 10.5 loft, preferably with a 70 to 80 gram graphite shaft, and match the flex to the stiffness you prefer, and just go out and swing to your ability.

People come into my shop all of the time with too steep of a swing, playing the ball off of their back foot and ballooning it like crazy with 6000+ rpm. They never believe that all they need to change is their setup instead of dropping 100+ on a shaft.

LOL my buddy (whos a big guy) has a fairly verticle swing and was playing the ball off his back foot to and couldnt understand why he hit 6000rpm "runway" worm burners :D, it took him a good 500 balls at the range to finally listen to me and wouldnt you know............If you get a chance, post your swing up for us :D
