I am as good as my bag I guess. The clubs are fit to my swing.

That being said, Rocco plays the X-22 Irons still doesnt he? I think he is about the only one who could post that he is better than his bag, haha

Actually Rocco plays the regular X-22's. I'd say I'm equal to my bag. I'm a +1 and I play FT9, AP2's, Callaway wedges and a Black Series i7.

Isn't that what I said?

Actually there is no other answer than the clubs are always better than the person because you can take the highest Game improvment iron and its capable of shooting + golf scores in the hands of a player that is capable of it.

Golf is all about ones ability to play the game it isn`t about clubs giving you the abilities.

How about this thought . . .

Your a scratch golfer but you have to play SGI irons. It's a tight course on a windy day. You can hit a high straight shot with a mediocre swing but you've lost the much of the ability to work the ball both directions and have a much greater difficulty controlling trajectory. You shot 80+

Your better than your clubs , perhaps the clubs are holding you back. Stifling your ability.

And the easy one . . .

Your a 20hdcp with a bag of X100 shafted tiny forged blades. With the best swing you have , your hitting worm burners with anything over a 5 iron and you only hit the sweetspot on a bad swing . . .by accident. You shot 110+ Your flaws are exposed and heavily exploited.

Your clubs are way more than you can handle.

Your equiptment , for many , is not about giving you abilities you don't have as much as it can be about maximizing the abilities you do have and minizing your flaws.

Just another thought.

You are building a hypothetical around a false premise. The OP question is whether you are better than your clubs or not. You`re talking about a scrach player having to play someone elses clubs.

Your better than your clubs , perhaps the clubs are holding you back. Stifling your ability.

You see, in your example the clubs are not yours, there someone elses. You play to scrach golf with your clubs and with your clubs the clubs are still better than you because if you get better with them you can be a + player

You are proving my origional statement " the clubs are always better than you" you just proved that the clubs your 20 handi played is better than he is, thats my premise.

Your clubs are way more than you can handle.

Your equiptment , for many , is not about giving you abilities you don't have as much as it can be about maximizing the abilities you do have and minizing your flaws.

I dont disagree with much of your statement but I don`t think this statement disproves what I said " your equiptment is always better than you are. You are what you are with your equiptment, there is always someone else playing your irons and play them better than you [which proves my point]. I know it`s popular to think SGI irons cannot be used to play scratch golf but it simply isn`t true, there is always someone else playing scratch golf with them.

Your assuming the anyone can play whatever they want. Almost everyone here will tell you that's not true. Alot of people can only buy what they can afford whether it's ideal for their game or not. Sometimes used , hand me downs , clearance rack , old school tech or whatever. Could be anything.

Some people buy stuff way beyond thier capability to realize the full benefits. For whatever reason , maybe it's 'hot' on the forums , Tour guys have it , dreams from their youth , awe or whatever. Maybe simply cause they can afford to buy the best and don't care if it matters.

Either way,

Your just arguing for the sake of arguing. You can't argue opinion and your is just the same as everyone elses. :)

This is just a light hearted topic , lighten up.

;)

As for the scratch comment , there's always someone doing something that's not 'ideal' for any situation. Doesn't mean it can't be done , doesn't mean it's the model example either.

Since my clubs all have a certain game improvement aspect (Nike full cavities, FT-iq etc.), I could say that I'm as good. However, if you consider what I spent on it, it's waaay too good for me.

I gave up on the game about 7 years ago. Used to consistently play to 15 with Mid-sized irons & woods. Moved out bush, no golf clubs nearby.

Came back to the game 2 years ago, and thought I'd give a full set of Top Flite Woods & Oversized Irons a go. Walked into the Pro Shop & bought the first set I saw.

Big mistake!

So I moved them on, and have slowly rebuilt my setup.

Is my bag better than I am, yes it currently is. But I'm slowly catching up!

Playing 9 holes- Have gone from hitting high 50's-Low 60's with the Top Flites, down to low-mid 40's with my current setup.

Only playing socially at this stage, but will be playing competitions soon enough.

Interesting topic. I think I'd say my bag is better than me - but not by a ton. The only clubs in my bag that I'm not entirely convinced fit my swing are my driver and 3w. The others were custom fit. I've been as low as a 6 but don't play as often now.

I realize I-5s may not be considered 'players' clubs, but I'd consider them a tweener. I've played blades and played at the same level (or better) - but I can't say my I-5s are holding me back. Lack of play is....

I voted "as good as my bag", but I was tempted to say "better than my bag" due to the G5 irons I play. I'm an 11, and when I bought irons 3 years ago I was torn between the I5's and G5's. I went with the G5's because I injured my back years ago and can no longer practice or take practice swings when playing. (In any single day, my back can only tolerate about 50 full swings.)

As a result, I bought the G5's for the forgiveness as it is hard to be consistent without the reps. one gets from practice. Sometimes, though, I wish I would have gotten the I5's when I see all of the glowing comments about them.

Good topic.

i voted as good as my bag but felt a was between being close to good enough to my bag or good as my bag but i went with as good as cause of the mizzy mx 19 cavity's and big bertha 3 wood the rest of my bag is better player stuff though tour burner tp scotty tour hybrid vokey i guess isn't really for better players but i felt i was as good as my bag but the question is really easy to answer cause any pro could play my stuff to there handicap no problem so no one is really better then there bag on this site
