I thought I was healed, so I played a round of golf, then went to the gym. I was not. This injury just drags on.

I am 39 & a female . I have been playing golf for about a year . In that year I had right shoulder surgery. About 3 weeks ago I developed a pain on my right side. Went to the doctor & had labs done just to be sure but was dx wirh intercostal strain/neuralgia. At first I couldn’t believe it, because I’m not athletic , but this is probably exactly why this happened . My spouse has me playing 9-18 holes of golf 4-7 days a week & at 5’3 and 200 pounds it’s a lot. The pain started on my right side . It goes through my rib cage , to my back on occasion, and even to the left side . My doctor has me on prednisone and baclofen. I take half of what I’m supposed to since I hate meds. I have backed off golf and it will feel better , but as soon as I start back it’s back! Very frustrating. We played 56 holes over the 4th and now it’s as bad as when it first started bothering me, the beginning of last month!! Any advice for this healing faster ?

It sounds like you are overdoing it. I don't know if you have the strength to keep playing as much as you do. You probably need to stretch more, develop more strength, and take it a bit easier on your body.

56 holes in one day with a painful strain!

What the heck do you expect .

The first advice responsible medical professionals give is to REST.

Buy a foam roller

Improve your posture

Start doing yoga/palates stretches /exercises when the pain has calmed down .

Same thing happened to me a few weeks back.  I stayed away from golf for a week and felt great.  First few swings and I was back to square one.  
 

My doctor told me nothing can really be done.  He said it’ll be better in 6 weeks, no matter if I golf or not.   
 

Terrible timing, as I was going to Hilton Head and golf was on the agenda.  I was in pretty bad pain on the drive down.  Lo and behold, though, I had almost no rib pain for the entire trip! The golf gods finally blessed me!
