Going to the Presidents Cup This Year

Wondering what people think about bringing kids?

I bought tickets to the Presidents cup this year for the wife and I. I was planning that my in-laws would take care of our baby girl who will be about 1 year and 3 months come tournament time while we were away. I just found out that the in-laws are going to be out of town too and can't watch our girl afterall. I've only been to one other golf tournament (LPGA) and I really have no idea what this one might be like. The wife and I were considering bringing her along with us. What do you think?

As a parent - i say go for it but me mindful of the players and don't be upset if you can't spend the whole day. I went to the US Open at Torrey and saw a number of strollers with infants and toddlers. However, I noticed the parent watching the child stayed farther back from the action in the event of the uncontrollable cry.

You'll probably want to set up a game plan though. I took my daughter to a tournamanet and spent most of my time around the range, green and the holes closest to the clubhouse. Walking the grounds with a stroller may be a bit hard (unless you have an all terrain type) and you will want to find out what facilites will be available (viewing tent or some warm place to feed the baby or for your wife to relax). You'll also want to find out about parking - you may have to take a shuttle so be prepared. Finally find out what you can and can't bring into the tournament. All the tournaments I've been to have restrictions on the size of your bag and what you can and cannot bring into the grounds (ie food, drinks, etc). Harding Park in October will probably be pretty cold so make sure you keep both your girls warm!

Don't do it. This place is going to be a madhouse. With a field of only 24 players (12 from each side) every match will have a Tiger crowd. This is NOTHING like an LPGA event. I live within 30 minutes and have chose to skip the hassle and watch from home.

BTW, October is actually one of the best weather months in San Francisco. Indian summer we call it. Fog is no longer an issue and temps are often 70s and 80s.

shuttles will run, becuase parking sucks.

ocotber weather should be nice (like scotchblade says...indian summers in SF are awesome.) but as always in sf - bring a warm jacket. if we get 3 nice days of weather in a row, you can expect the 4th day to be 50* and foggy no matter what time of year.

harding parks rough right now is getting kinda nasty thick, so the normal stroller will suck to push it through...until it gets trampled down by the 2nd day.

the facilities there are pretty bare. whatever they are going to have it is going to be tents...lots of tents.

overall i would say go for it, and bring the kid.

I went to the Ryder Cup last year and I did not see hardly any kids that young. With so few groups playing each day it is a challenge to watch and follow without a child. I would not advise taking her unless you can train her to only cry and make noise while the international players are hitting.

+1 I took my son (9yr old at the time) to the ryder at Oakland Hills...very hard tournament to watch because of the small number of groups on the course and they are all on the same side. Almost impossible to follow a group; pretty much have to sit and wait for groups to pass...what saved it for the boy after it was all said and done was seeing Jordan -lol.
