touch
I do and wonder if other members might for the same reasonHow many of you WRX'rs carry a 4 wood. I do a 17* as I have no use for a 3 wood of 15*. I am a average distance very good golfer. 7 iron goes 155 and driver goes 245.I carry a 4 wood at 17* for long par 3's and to advance the ball on par 5's for a second shot of 220 yards. Also great off the tee for short or tricky par 4's. Since I can not get home on any longish par 5 in 2 shots I find the 4 wood so much more useful in the bag.Anyone else in my club? Doc420
I with a 4 wood this summer. Todays 3 woods are really made for off the tee stuff. I put extra length in the shaft and hit is as far as a 3 but never have to worry about getting the ball up off the deck.
golf_junkie27
I have a Nike SQ 4W that I really like. I generally take it when I play two courses near me that are either tight or long. The shaft is a little longer than the one in my Bridgestone Hybrid and it launches higher. Its perfect for that soft landing and very little roll. AcesAZ
I bag a 4 wood mainly for one par 5 at my home track which is 560 yards but unless you hit it 330+ the second shot is over some tall oaks. I like to be able to knock it on in two there.
ABgolfer2
I'll tentatively say yes. The Wilson Staff Fybrid I carry is suposed to replace a lot of clubs. I haven't carried a 4-wood in over 10 years, but based on carry, roll, and workability, the Fybrid is approximate the bastxxx child of a 2-iron and a 4-wood. Robert Brown
I dropped the 3 wood about 4 years ago in favor of a 4 wood...one of the best things I have done for my game! I am a low ball hitter and it fits the bill for shorter par 4's, long par 3's, etc. Just as has been said by others on the post. Greenie
Put me in the group. I use to carry a Cobra SZ 4w but I sold am my SZ woods cause they were stiff and now I am old. LOL . I really missed that 4w. Now I am back. I just bought a TEE xcg-v 4w and love it. I am gonna go with the 4w, 7w and I think I am set. iscarter69
Replaced the 3 wood with a 16.5* TEE CB1 earlier this summer. Has been a great addition and I don't think I have been losing any distance with it. 3 wood used to be the worst club in my bag -- 4 wood is now one of the most versatile and dependable. lefty74pgh
Replaced my 3 wood with a Burner Tp 17.5 and have never looked back. nasabogey24
Driver, 4 wood, 20-21* hybrid, 4i-pw, 52*, 58*, 64* wedges (or 52,56,50 or 50,54,58, or 50, 55, 60, etc, etc, etc, whatever you prefer) is an outstanding set makeup IMO. I believe the 4 wood is the most versatile fairway wood in the bag. You can choke down on it and play it like a 5 wood. It's easier to work, it's easier to hit off the deck for most golfers, and with the right shaft and length, it can go just as far as most 3 woods. Just my 2 pennies. jcshil
Count me in on this group. Put a R7 Steel 4-wood in the bag a year or so ago in favor of my 3-wood and I've been happy every since. Nice shallow face that allows me the versatility I need off the tee, rough, or fairway. Definitely one of my favorite clubs.
sectorpops
I am still using a nike t40T 4 wood. I have had it in the bag for years and for the courses I play it is perfect. Guncher
Yep, I've carried a Nike Ignite T60 17* 4 wood for about 3-4 years now. I go from Driver to 4W to either 3 iron or 21* hybrid and carry 4 wedges. This setup works well for me. My wedges help me score, not having 3 and 5 woods. northgolf
I bag a 4 wood for a different reason - my 3h was overlapping in distance with my 5W, so I move to a 4W and replaced my 15* 3W with a 13* 3W. I have no difficulty getting the 3W off the deck and the 4W @ 17* has enough loft to be usuable out of light/moderate rough. 4W for maintain consistent yardage coverage. TeeTim
I've also got the Sonartec NP-99 4 wood with the Aldila-NV shaft (17*). Absolutely pure. I don't know why I ever parked it. Always straight and easier to get airborne off the deck. I've got a new G15 4 wood I'm trying as well. May the best 4W win. 4W/7W is a great setup to diversify your short clubs. weissmanjeff
I can't fathom why any average to very good amateur golfer would carry a 13*, 14*, or 15* fairway wood. You don't gain much in terms of distance vs. 17* or 18* (ok, 13* vs. 18* can be significant IF you catch the 13* solid), and there's no comparison in terms of accuracy. Consistency and accuracy are the keys to fairway woods. If you play at a course with 3 or 4 550+ yard par-5's, I suppose you could make an argument for a low-lofted fw, but to me, I don't see the advantage. Bottom line, most players at a 3-15 hdcp will NOT hit a 13* or 14* fw off the deck consistently well. The heads are too big and the margin for error is too low. Birdies are rarely going to be made with this club. Even this year, my game is improving, but I have moved from 16* to 17* and now 18* (Squareway, though it will be more like 16.5* with an open face), and for me I actually hit 4 and 5 woods longer than 3 woods, even off the tee. For reference, I'm about a 5 and I hit my current 17* 4 wood 245 tee and 235 deck.
