in what may be the understatement of the century, it's hard to quibble with stevie/tiger's results.

as far as obviously talking shop, bones and phil seem to do more of it......but phil seemingly needs more of that than tiger. i say "seemingly" because i'm cobbling together an opinion based solely on what the cameras and mics pick up. stevies and tiger's conversations are more muted - we're not as privy to their chatter are we are to bones and phil's.

one thing stevie is uniquely suited for - physically and personality wise - is running interference for the mass of energized humanity that follows his guy's every move. phil obviously draws huge galleries too.....but for some reason phil's galleries seem a little more laid back.....a little more deferential to phil. there is a certain herd mentality to tiger's galleries that stevie marshals very adeptly. we've all heard him bow up and bark orders at folks/camera men that in his opinion over step boundaries. he's certainly not shy about being the bad guy/bulldog. there are other rock stars out on tour, but there's only one elvis.

as far as the original question goes, tiger pretty much already answered it for us. who am i to argue with his judgment on the subject.

I think Stevie and Bones are both fine caddies suited to their respective players. Stevie is a dick, but that is very much by design (and totally necessary). What I like about Bones and Phil's relationship is that they openly disagree, discuss, and debate. They are more of a team, which is also by design. Tiger needs someone to manage and intimidate the mob. Phil needs someone to occasionally advise him against his impulsive nature.

I'll take Tony Navarro or Billy Foster any day of the week.

Bones would have my head spinning with all the discussion over every minor detail and I reckon I'd be toe to toe with Steve Williams inside five minutes. Fluff seems a nice enough bloke though, having watched him at a few Open Championships. Nice and laid back and doesn't say much that doesn't really need to be said. As long he didn't harp on about the Grateful Dead I reckon I could get along with him nicely enough.

Once of the biggest broadcast opportunities to get the fans closer to the game would be to mike the caddies. On several of the broadcasts they've picked up the conversations between player and caddie and it added to the fun. The LPGA mikes up one or two players on occasion but it rarely seems to be players in the mix.

I know stevie has more wins with tiger but he is also caddying for him in his prime. fluff was really good and is still really good with furyk. Bones is a great caddy for phil I dont think he would work with some other players but he is obviously a very very good caddy
