Now i know in order to properly ascertain which set of clubs is best for you, you need to hit them, but none the less i am looking for some guidance.

Am thinking about in the not too distant future buying a set of miura's but am not sure which set. I currently play MacGregor mt pro combination set, though before these played some MP-29's. Ive had a look at a lot of the miura offerings and it seems that the cavity backs have a fair amount of offset, or at least more than im comfortable with. So, my question is basically, which set is going to give me the closest in playability to my current irons? Id be happy with either blades or cavitys as long as they were as forgiving as my macgregors, im also looking for very little offset and thin top line...can anyone recommend some miuras for me to look at?

Thanks
If you like a thin topline with little offset and forgiveness and playability i would definately suggest the cb-301's. they look exactly like a blade when you look at them from the top. it was almost identical to my vega raf-cm blaces as far as the topline and address look
I play the new 2010 CB 301's with conforming grooves as my personal set and love them. As a Miura dealer I carry all the models and like the 301's the best...at least for my eye and game. This 2010 301 model also has a slight change in sole grind (leading edge is more rounded over to prevent digging) to make them more playable than the non-conforming groove version.

I didn't want to start a new thread as I have a simple question.

I am a bogey golfer hitting Callaway X20 Tours that I like and hit well. If I went to Miura MC-102's would I find them more difficult to hit?

I have never seen Miuras in person. Where do you guys buy yours? Any reputable online dealers? I work on Nantucket,Mass and would likely have to buy online. Also, what would I expect to pay for these?

Are the KBG (or similar) tour shafts worth $300 extra over tt?

As for the wedges, anyone willing to make a suggestion? I normally have a 52, 56, and 60, but the Miura numbers seem to be quite different, Then there is all the different grinds and I don't know what is what in that area.

Thanks for any insights.

I went from forged Yonex ADX Tour cavity backs to the Miura Tournament blade without a problem. The 102s will not be harder to hit than your X20s. My kid hit the 102s really well, but we decided on the blades for her.

You should demo some Miuras before purchase. Check out their website for a dealer in your area. According to Miura, www.miura-golf-clubs.com is NOT a recognized dealer.

If you're going to spend extra for Miura, spend extra for top notch shafts, whatever the brand may be. You woulndn't put cheap tires on a Ferrari.

I have 52, 56, 60 wedges with 7, 9, 7 degrees bounce, respectively. These are the Miura wedge series wedges, not the y, c, or k grinds. My daughter has the same wedges as me, it the RH version, and interestingly, the grinds look different, as well as the bounces, but are supposed to be the same. I have no idea. They work great, so I'm not complaining.

There are a few dealers in the Northeast. Aceofclubs in Mass and Downtown golf in Stamford Ct. You can always call Ken Husvar down at Victory Custom golf in SC as well. All three have great reputations

Thanks for the info man. That website does not have any contact info of any kind. Looks fishy, eh?

I appreciate the input man.

Thanks man. I have heard nothing but good things about Playersedge. I got a PM from a forum member that suggested Chip Usher of Usher Golf in Savannah,Georgia. He is closer to me and had everything in stock and made me three Miura wedges Friday (same day I called him). He will ship them with overnight shipping on Monday. That made the purchase easy.

If I like the wedges, I will consider the Miura 102's.

Anyone familiar with Miura's, do you think the 102's are suitable for a player of my ability? I hit Callaway X20 Tours now and just started breaking 90 this past year. Would love to hear more about this if anyone has an opinion.

I got these in 52, 56, and 60 with Nippon super peening blue shafts....

as far as I know the 102's are the most forgiving iron they have. I have a set of 202 and tourney blades and have hit the 501's while getting fitted. all of them feel great and are pretty easy to hit. I assume that the 102's are as forgiving if not more forgiving than the x 20 tours you play now. if you plan on playing more golf down the road i wouldn't rule out trying the 501's as well. they have a bit more offset and generally are pretty forgiving for a players cavity.

Are any of you guys shooting in the mid/high 80's?

Would be great to know what level player (generally speaking) is using what type of Miura.

What I am getting at, are all you guys like single digit handicaps or are some of you bogey golfers like me.

Hi Dan,

I shoot in the 90's and I use the 202 which you can tell from reading the posting above that is not the most forgiving iron, coupled with the precious metal hybrid. My previous set was a Callaway 2004 Big Bertha, just to give you some perspective. From my personal experience, Yes, the mis-hits are going to be punished a lot more with my 202 as compared to other game improvement iron. On the other hand, I found the feedback I get from the 202 made me a much better ball striker, not only on my irons but on my hybrid and woods as well.

I recently just visited Ping Factory in Phoenix and did my fitting there mainly for the Driver. The fitter tried to talk me into switching my iron and hybrid as I do get better distance out of them, but I wasn't even tempted mainly due to the fact that I can't feel the sort of feed back from the Ping i15's what I'm used to from my Miura.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

D

Just the kind of insights I hoped for.

Thanks man.

You went from BB to 202's? Wow. Must be a big change. I hit BB for 5 years before getting my X20 Tours a year ago and they are very different clubs for sure. I am hitting the X20's better than the BB at this point. Makes me want to leap into some Miura irons. Perhaps they are not out of my league as much as I first thought. I am shooting in the high 80's over the last 6 months. First time ever. Perhaps getting away from true GI irons was of benefit based on your ballstriking comment. It does fit, I dump the GI irons and within 6 months I am breaking 90 for the first time in 20 years of golfing. Makes me wonder.

Yea, it was a big change from BB to 202. But bottom line is, from my own experience, Miura's not out of anyone's league at all. Well, to qualify my statement: if max distance from any particular club is what one's looking for, then yes, Miura's probably out of a lot of the mid - high handicapper's league as mis-hits get punished.... But if shooting a better score is what one's looking for, then Miura should be the iron of choice for any player as it is an excellent training tool to improve one's ball striking, which in turns improve one's game. Plus the irons are just absolutely beautiful at address =P

Yea, if you are even remotely considering, you own it to yourself to go find a local fitter and try it out. Oh, and while I'm at it, the precious metals are excellent compliment to the Miura irons. The gapping from my 5 iron to my 4 hybrid is completely seemless.... highly recommended.... I have my hybrid on steel shaft as well... another supposedly nono for high handicapper, but I say to hell with the so call conventions....

I purchased a set of the 202 Straight Necks from PlayersEdge - and would highly recommend him as an option. That said, I find the 202s easier to play than both blades and most player cavities. In fact, the only issue I have with the Miuras is that they cost me shots because I refuse to hit them off of any gravelly or questionable lie.

Dan, Sorry for being Johnny-come-lately. I went through a similar experience so I thought I should post.

I am definitely a bogey golfer and have played the Miura 202s (nippon 1050gh shafts) (switched from Mizuno MX-25) for a little over three years. I love them.

Like you, when I first tried out the Miuras, I thought I would go with the 102s as they are the most forgiving. However, when I got to the club fitter, I hit the 202s much better. They seem to suit my eye and to balance better in my hand (or maybe it is all in my head). The new 501s look to have a similar set up as the 202s. The golf pro who shares space with the club fitter tells people that people should not be afraid to get the blades as they easier to hit than most people think.

My club fitter told me I would be silly to go with the 102s given that the 202s seem to suit me. My club fitter also gave me some wise advice (or perhaps a great bit of salesmanship) when I expressed to him my fear that perhaps my game did not warrant a set of Miuras. He told me that while Miuras are not likely to improve my game, they will improve my enjoyment of my game. He was right. I do enjoy my game more. I love the feedback that the 202s give me. And I have dropped my handicap to a 12 from an 18.

So I say: 1) do not be intimated by the Miura label, and 2) hit a few models before you settle on a set. I remember seeing somewhere in this forum years ago that Miura's USA headquarters sent out some demos for a small fee. If you are buying from a dealer on-line, you can also have your club-maker make you one 6 iron of the model(s) you are interested in shaft(s) you are interested in before you purchase a whole set.

Hope that I am not too late with my post.

As Mr Miura himself says,

Dont believe all of the HYPE re: GI irons, although he does make cavity backs he does try and get everyone to play his Blades, ive been playing Miura's the Small Blade iron now for well over 18 months, and i can safely say that apart from my Tinker set of VR Pro Blades, the Miura's are the closest thing to Heaven on a Stick and especially with KBS X Flex and Soft stepped so they play in between and X and S flex.

Best idea is check the Miura Website and look for the Dealers.

Dont be scared to hit a blade, its only a matter of Time before anyone can Flush blades ! PERIOD !
