Which are best

Hi all,
It's almost holiday time again.One of the things my parents are getting me are new wedges. What are your personal favorites? I am trying to decide between ping tour w's, vokey sm's, taylormade xfts, and mizuno mpt 10. Other recomendatiobs are welcome, my price cap is around 160-180/wedge. Any other brands? Reviews? I Am also considering miura, chilara, and scratch. Unforunatel the last two brands do not stock my preferred lofts, 54 and 60. Also, if I get a more "generic" brand, (titleist, tm, ping, etc.) I may get 3 (pw sw lw) but if I get a more expnsive club (the jlm brands) I can get two. So any suggestions or reviews? My current favorites are Ping Tour-W's. You can get them in almost any degree/loft/bounce you want as well as several sole grinds to suit your preference. I have previously used Cleveland and Titliest vokey, both of which are very popular.

Best wedge? Vokeys, Cleveland 588s and beryllium Eye 2s in my opinion; but the truth is that pretty much all the OEMs make a decent wedge these days, with the best one being down to your individual preferences and needs.

For my money, a Vokey is still the best out there. There are a whole spread of spec, loft, bounce and sole options, a choice of finishes, and you can pick the type of groove you want/need into the bargain. And, at the price you can generally find them, they qualify as such compared to some of the JDM stuff.

My opinion is that the fourteen wedges are the best. They are forged (vokey's are not) and feel great. I am currently using the MT28 v4. These wedges are awesome. They have a penetrating ball flight and they put loads of spin on the ball. I love the look of them as well.

I have been a Vokey guy for a long time. They just work. I've strayed more than once but keep coming back.

I'm also a fan of the Nike Vr's.

Srixon WG-706, they are everything the Vokey's are and more. Milled & Forged, great feel, nice shape, bounce options, satin or black... Next would be Scratch 1018's. Then Callaway's, then Clevelands, then Vokey's, then everything else...

Great question...everyone on this site wants to know that answer.

From your signature, it looks like you have experience with many of the top companies products, so you may want to ask yourself if one company fits [b]your personality[/b] more than the others. What suits your eye, what wedge feels good when you look down on it, do you like black, chrome, rusted, etc.

Once you answer those questions, you can narrow down your choices. Unfortunately, there is no 1 BEST wedge out there for EVERYONE, it's all personal preference.

I personally like the black look, so my advice could be to go that route and get the jet black Fourteen MT28-V4....[i]but that's what I like[/i]...but it might not be your preference. So go with your gut, buy from the company that you gravitate towards, practice with it, play it, then you'll grow to love it because it's your choice...not ours.

Now enough preaching. Here are my personal suggestions (IMHO):

Scratch can bend 1-2 degree to yr like.

I'm using vokey now, but will change to scratch next year, they 're cool!

I have played the following:

Ping Eye 2's
Vokeys
Taylor Made RAC's
Cleveland 485's
Cleveland 588's
And now SCRATCH 8620

I absolutely love these Scratch wedges. The DD grind on the sole makes the 60 a MILLION times easier to flop than my old 588's or any other 60 I have ever hit. The feel is good, I have played better "feeling" wedges, but the performance is awesome. The best thing is that they hand selected the heads to get the swing weights right where I wanted them at the length I like. You get to customize your initials, color of paint fill, color of ferrules, lie, loft, length, shaft, grip, everything. All for $99.

I can't say enough about these wedges. I couldn't believe how much better they were than what I have played for years. They are much easier to hit, and the custom grinds are perfect for me. My divots are shallower and longer, nice combo.

I have been using Callaway X Forged for a couple of years and they work very well for me. I also was able to hit a few shots with the new Jaws wedges from Callaway and they are cover eaters as well. I agree that just about every OEM makes a pretty good wedge these days.

Cant go wrong with chikara or fourteen. Zodia km tour are also very nice forged wedges. If you are going with a three wedge setup you can't go wrong with the callaway x forged, lots of options.

Loved my Ping Eye 2s from way back when, along with my Cleveland 588s (still have a 53 deg BeCu). The Vokeys haven't really impressed me that much to be honest, at least around the greens, but head weight is great, they look amazing and I like them from the fairway on longer shots, haha. I'm going to try some X-forged next I think.

Scratch are awesome

Cast or Forged are both great. Go online and get fit. You will be happy with the results.

Feel or durability? Can't beat the price of the cast. Can't beat the feel of the forged.

The new Wilson Staff Tw9's are incredible and extremely reasonably priced (TGW has them for $85).

My Scratches were good performers in 2009 as was my Vokey GW, but there will be 3 Tw9 wedges in my bag in 2010.

I've played Vokey's, Mizuno's, and Cleveland wedges and I prefer the Scratch wedges to all of them. Add in the bonus of being able to completely customize the wedge and you have a great product. Plus, the customer service that Scratch offers is second to none.
