you are wrong:) i had the 501s and gaming the 502s. the 502s are solid feeling and gone are the clicky sounds. feel is almost mushy and the club is significantly more forgiving than its predecessor. awesome is how i describe it

Wait til you try them. You'll only have to hit one ball to notice the difference in feel.

Pretty good word to describe them.

I honestly can't believe how much of an improvement these irons are over the 501's. If I hadn't experienced it for myself I would have never believed it.

They are very forgiving and one of the best feeling irons I have ever hit.

If you're thinking about a mid size forgiving forged cavity back. The 502's are outstanding.

It's the overall best feeling iron I've hit. I doesn't matter how bad you hit it it doesn't give you that harsh feel, you still get a decent feel. I've been playing them in colder weather the last week. Still nothing but great feel. Strike the ball decent and the ball just melts off of the club.

Honestly, if this is the type of iron you're looking for. Buy these. You can thank me later.

I demo'd these clubs today. My goodness....so sweet. The demo club was installed with a KBS 5.5 shaft, and the combo provided good kick and forgiveness on off center shots, where I didn't find too much loss of distance compared to my better shots. Unfortunately, these clubs are a little too expensive to put into play for me. Does anyone have a very good replacement iron that's comparable in feel and forgiveness with these here...that are more affordable?

So right now I am 14 hdcp and not in the pro ranks like most of you but wanted to share my thoughts on these new irons. I was playing the Mizuno MP-52's last year but I just couldn't get over the looks and positive talk about the JDM irons so I broke down and ordered a set. They are fitted with aerotech 110's stiff and 1/2 inch over standard. I had them bent two degrees upright and had some of the lofts altered to fit my game.
The thing about these clubs that I noticed right off the bat was the feel. the feel was like you was hitting a foam ball as it felt like it melted on the club and then flew but with that was the sound of the perfect impact position as well as the other sound of a miss hit shot. To me I like to hear the swoosh of a good shot and you get it with these. I think it hard to talk about distance because we all swing different for me I have not lost any distance versus my MP52 and I actually may have gained a few. These clubs give me a lot of confidence and I can't wait to play more with them.
Now this is my own opinion but the one thing is the size. They seem big to me right out of the box but I think it was the sole was just longer but after getting them on the course the size was very similiar to Miz's. I will say to all the really good players that the 302's would probably fit you better simply because of the small player look head.
And at last I really look forward to the spring with these clubs as I know my handicap will be going down.

Thanks for the review. What do you think these clubs will do for you over and above the 52's? The reason I ask is I play the 52's, love them, but am always open to what else may be out there. Thx.

The 52's were great but the 502's have the softest feel I have played. When the ball is struck well you hear the thuck thats lets you know but you don't feel any impact from the ball. Off the toe gives you a total different sound but I did not notice a lot of distance lose and most of the time the shot ended up better than I expected. With 52's I also had the sound but no where as much forgiveness.

Could you compare the 502s to the 701s? Clearly the 701s had more forgiveness and even distance over the 501s, so has the 502s closed either gap? If so, it may make them a clear winner when deciding. No doubt, if the feel and control of the 502s exceed the 501s, they then beat the 701s in those categories. How close then are they for Forgiveness and Distance? Thanks

502s are one of the easiest and nicest looking irons out there in its class. Im lucky as I have access to the entire epon line to try, etc. so I tried both the 501 and 502s back to back and without question the 502s feel more solid and a little more forgiving than the 501. The aesthetics of the club blow away the 501s. Really nice.

If you have the $ and can swing the 502s, definitely get them. They are a nice improvement over the 501s.

i got 501 shafted NSPro750 for my in-law for his 72nd about 3m back. don't know if his handicap improved (his swing definitely hasn't) but puts a mysterious smile on his face whenever I ask him how they are. I've only chipped them (we a foot apart in height so they are an inch short for me, 6degrees too flat and about 20cpm too soft) they felt pretty good.
I had a good deal on them as they just introduced 502s, so I got two yururi tour wedges to go with them for the same price. If it was now I would have probably been too stingy to buy 502s and he'd be gaming mizzies - glad I got them for him.

It's not explained on this topic, so for those who don't know: 501s have a hot face plate on 3i-6i, to give the extra distance, which gives them a characteristic click on impact and they look a bit like full cavity. 7i-PW are mushy soft steel on the face. Some people complained about the click - my in-law thought it was cool.
From what I understand the 502s don't have this so they are a bit more feel oriented.

Epon look very nice in CBs. Quality too: Endo forging machinery has arguably the tightest tolerances around and their ceo says they save the best stuff for Epon (their own brand)

501s at least look smaller than MX300, because they have a thin blade-like topline - Mx300 are what they call "confidence inspiring" i.e. fat&ugly.
i don't know if the actual size is smaller

another thing at address that bothers me with some CBs is if you see the meat at the back of the club from address. In blades you don't get that till about 2i and only because it's so forward in stance. I don't remember 501 bothering me at address, but I only spent about 5mins with them and didn't pay much attention.

I recently had a set of 502s built by John at Midwest Golf Lab in St. Louis with nspro 1050 stiff, which is the shaft in my Epon 701s. John did a great job on the build. I agree with Spoon and Idrive: a forgiving players cavity back.
I have only played 9 holes twice with them, but I love the look and solid feel, not clicky like the 701s. After a few more rounds I will let you know if they kick the 701s out of the bag.
