All Black CG15 Forged Tour Zip Grooves (Japan Only)

Has anyone heard anything on the black finish CG15 Forged Tour Zip Grooves wedge made of S25C steel that is going to be solely made/released in Japan? This is the only graphic I can find and idk anyone who seems to know anything about it. Just thought I'd see if you equipment junkies know anything.

I can't see SRI releasing anything Forged (in North America) in the near future. Most consumers are price point oriented and consider a $200 (which is about what it would cost) wedge an excess. If they are willing to pay that kind of dough, they are either looking into a Tour Dept. Scratch, or have Tourspecgolf.com on their favourite's list. my .02. If they could bring it across in the $120-130 range, I'm pretty sure they'd do well.

They are not for sale in the pro shop (yet) however they are discussed in the 'GolftoImpress' Blog on the site.

The photo says that the grooves are laser milled and conform to the new groove rule.

Wrong cg15 with tour zip grooves as these have are 100000000000% conforming for pro 2010 play, sorry to burst your bubble.

From the Team Red Forum's (Cleveland's Fan Forum/Market Research)

"CG15 Forged is only available in Japan. It has a Japan-specific shape and specs (lighter and shorter). Also the retail price is around $200 US Dollars."

Cleveland has 588s forged by Miura as well, so nothing new for the Japan market as it seems everything over there has to be forged. Even TaylorMade has their wedges forged for the Japan market.

^ Yep. They (CG15 Forged) appear to have the TOUR ZIP GROOVES which will be 2010 conforming for PGA/Tour players. This looks to be a Japan only release that hopefully, [url="http://www.tourspecgolf.com"]http://www.tourspecgolf.com[/url] will carry when they debut in February. I've heard they have lighter and shorter specs. Will retail around $200 USD.

The CG15's are NOT conforming for PGA/Tour/2nd stage USGA Open qualifier players that have the Zip Grooves. From what I hear, there will be TOUR ZIP GROOVES CG15's made available through custom ordering in the first part of the year. My question is, how many are you are playing tour events in the next year that you even need to worry about this? 90% of golfers don't need to worry about what grooves are on their sticks until 2024. If I remember correctly, more than 10000 players played the US Open local qualifiers last year. Most of those players will want conforming grooves because they will be required for the second stage.

The player I caddied for in the sectional qualifiers last year is looking at the CG15 and conforming grooves are certainly an issue for him. The new grooves rule is affecting many players. Not all, but many.

Of course. Only problem is nobody knows which ones will advance. So unless you want to be playing the local with old grooves and, in the eventuality you do advance, the sectional a few weeks later with the new grooves, you're going to get the new grooves for the local. In any case they will be required for the 2011 local qualifiers.

As one of those 10,000 people who was in a local qualifier, I would feel quite the contrary to your statement. I would want the advantage of playing a local qualifier with conforming grooves, and if in fact I did play well enough to advance to sectionals, I would work with new grooves for 2-3 weeks to prepare. But you're right in one facet, I will be interested in having both conforming groove irons & wedges as well as non-conforming.
