Advice from the ping guys

eye 2's

So i stopped playing golf about 5 months ago and I am slowly getting back into it. the problem is i dont have the time to keep playing my mizuno's/ I love pings and think they make some of the best stuff out there. im on a budget thats why I am thinking about eye 2's. wheres the best/cheapest place to get good quality eye 2's. i know there are specialists out there that love ping. also im open for any suggestions on other clubs that are cheap and offer the same forgiveness as pings

eye 2's can't be ordered new from ping any longer. eye 2+ can be. ping g5's can be had new in the $300-400 range. Otherwise ebay or 3balls.com are your best bets.

You can usually pick up a good set of Eye2's on Ebay for around $200-$250, unless you go with copper, then the price usually doubles if they are in good shape.

Personally, I think a G2 or G5 set would be more forgiving. A new, 7-club set of G5's can be had for ~$350. Less used, of course.

I agree with the G5 recommendation. They are a great set and are now at great prices.

Eye-2 /Eye-2+ are a great choice if you're on a tight budget. I bought a set of Eye-2+ on GolfWRX BST last year for $140, and I've seen other sets of Eye-2's and +'s listed there over time. Another source is globalgolf.com. I checked and they have 4 sets of Eye-2's ranging from $140-$220.

I concur with everyone who mentioned the G5s. They're more forgiving than the EYE2s, have a modern look, are readily available, can be ordered new at a very reasonable price, and are customizable for shaft/grip/loft/lie/length/swingweight.

I managed to grab a set of Eye2+'s, 2iron-SW, off ebay for $240. That sounds high, until you actually see them. These things are absolutely DEAD MINT, and not a refinish. Looks like they've been sitting in a closet for 18-20 years. KT shafts, with the bands in perfect condition, absolutely no frayed edges.
So, bottom line, there are deals to be had. You just need to be careful.

not to steal a topic, but I have some eye-2s that are copper...i dont' play them anymore, keep them as collector items. I coke them once a year to see them shine.

Question...could I send these to someone to get refurbed?

The Eye2's are good clubs, but remember their lofts are weak by todays standards. Don't expect to hit any 135 yard wedges.

I would suggest the i5.

Why would it matter if one hits a 135 yard wedge?

Many players - like the Finau brothers - seem to think that the object of the game is a 170 yard 9-iron rather than getting the ball into the hole.

When I played w/my Eye 2's and was asked "what club are you hitting", my response and loft "disclaimer" were sometimes followed up with "yeah, whatever."

Actually, it doesn't matter to me how far I hit a wedge, for me it is 120 yards, but I happen to be 70 years old. However, most people on this site are considerably younger and very distance oriented, modern clubs have much stronger lofts, and for most of you youngsters want to appear as manly as your peers, and also measure how you compare to the pro's.
