Aviara- Four Seasons Resort

I was in San Diego last week for Thanksgiving and played a couple rounds, first one was at Aviara which is one of my favorite courses in the area, hope you like the pictures.

Aviara is a beautiful track, I play it once or twice a year.

I played it in May of 2008 and was really impressed. Great elevation changes and the greens were consistent with great speed.

+1 I like this course too if I can't get out to Torrey. Another short road trip is the course at the Barrona Casino. Always in great shape and less than $75 green fee is a steal.

It was a lot more than $75 the day we played it. We did also play Barona Creek, i have pics to put up for that one also.

I absolutley love Aviara. Just about every hole on that course is a signature hole.

Would need to hear your logic on that one. Aviara is always in great shape, hands down the most manicured golf course in SOCAL that is not a CC. I still have others I prefer that are a bit more challenging. Aviara's a bit over-priced if you ask me once you've played there.

These photos are great - Aviara course looks beautiful. I have stayed at the hotel and will say it is among the best hotels experiences I've had. I used to travel for work quite a bit and can compare a lot of hotels. I never had time to play there, though. This gives me a new 2010 goal.

I was saying that TP North is better than TP South, not comparing either to Aviara which I have not played.

Since you mentioned it, level of manicure is far down on the list of criteria I use to judge golf course quality.

How is TP North better than TP South? I totally disagree. TP South is harder but, in my opinion, more pleasing to the eye.

How is North better than South? I think you most definetly have to consider how good of condition a course is in typically when you rate its quality. For instance La Costa in San Diego is NOTORIOUS for being horribly manicured and for that reason does not have a good rep. North does have some nice holes but there is no comparison since you really only get two good ocean holes on the front 9 and the back 9 is pretty boring.

Yes they do still have the statues, they are standing next to the putting green, they are to the right out of the picture of the putting green.

Without question, extremely poor conditioning can detract from the golfing experience. But by the same token, a bad/boring design cannot be improved by lush conditioning.

I've never played Aviara so I cannot comment from personal experience. But from reading this thread and looking at the photos, I can see it is a course with statues, pretty flowers and numerous waterfalls. I think my wife would like it.

Ok, I am more interested in how in the world the North Course is superior to the South Course since you will be the only person I have ever ran into that thinks that and I have lived in San Diego for 30 years.

Aviara is a very nice track nd loved the white chocolate cranberry cookies at the end/practice green!

Agree with others, the South is the better and more challenging course than the North, hence the price difference!
