Comparision Pics

I recieved a number of requests from WRX'ers to post pics of my new 2010 Jspec Burner TP's. I just finished the build (KBS Black Chrome X-flex) and have one range session under my belt so I'm not going to do a lengthy review. Let's just say my intial impressions are fantastic, soft as butter, point and shoot. If these aren't the coveted Burner B's then you could have fooled me! I hit the 2010 R9 TP side by side and hate to say it but not even in the same ball park, not even close. It's a shame TM decided to pass on the US market with these, the players out there would flip out over these...BB

Note: The comparison pics are as follows:

1.) PW- Miura Blade
2.) 6 irons- 2009 Tour Authentic X-Forged (not to be confused with 2007 X-Forged, totally different beast)

The TM's have almost zero offset and very similar blade length to the Callys, I would classify this a TRUE modern players cavity back.

Another cool little tidbit, the grips are actually more Patriot than MC, no cord.

So so tempted to order a set off the web. So many nice clubs out there at the moment, how does the feel compare to the Callaways and of course the Miura's?

How does the forgiveness compare to the Callaways?

We all know that feel is subjective but I'm very impressed early on, I wouldn't say as buttery soft as the Miura's (what is!) however I would compare them to an Endo forging, crisp yet still very soft (if that makes sense). The feel is nothing at all like the R9 TP castings. Forgiveness is great, maybe more so than the Callys. I find the callys to be very forgiving too. Maybe a TM insider can chime in although I highly doubt TM would admit this but my guess is these are soft cast and the US offerings are not, hense the price variance. Simply put, I really think these are the Burner B's, why would they alter a perfect product.

Do just the 5 and 6 irons have the undercut in the cavity?

Did you find them reasonably forgiving?

What are you going to use for long irons?

Cut channel begins in the 7 iron and continues through the set. I actually play a Bridgestone Airmuscle bent to 24.5 degrees (and shortened) as my 4 iron then progress into a Cobra Baffler Pro 20 degree as my 5 wood/3 iron replacement. I have experienced a great deal of success with this configuration, really more forgiving all the way around. I'm a low spin/mid launch player so the added launch and spin has dramatically improved my greens in regulation form these distances. It was hard to remove my ego however, it's kinda weird ordering iron sets 5-PW but hell saves money! BB

These heads where so tight in tolerance that we only needed to tweak them hear and there, the lofts where pretty spot on. I found them very hot off of the face but hard to tell, I'm hitting balls in the low/mid 20's and snowing at the heated range. I would still say longer than my Callys/Nippon 1150's X-flex setup. Definitely not shorter thats for sure...BB

Thanks but no updates just yet, those X-Proto's are sweet sticks too! I think Cally tweaked the looks/feel of them vs the origionals, another one of my conspiracy theorys. I have wayyyyyyy to many sets, anyone want my Miura's for a good price!

Thanks, they really setup nice, keep growing on me. I can't capture how cool they look in person, wish I had better camera skills. My wife wants to purchase a digital SLR, if she does then lookout, I will post sick pics of my entire collection...BB

BB, thanks for the awesome pictures. After I saw them last night, I promptly went to Tourspecgolf and ordered a set. Might finally be retiring the MP60s.

Big Ben, how do the Burner TP's compare to the X-Protos in terms of forgiveness, bounce (which digs more) and feel? I know these are subjective, but I'd love a general impression. Thanks!

Good question, I think they feel pretty similar, my Miura's being a hair more responsive. I think the grinds are pretty similar from a bounce perspective (NOT DIGGY, I hate diggy) but I hesitate to comment, I'm located on the eastside of Cleveland and the only place I've been able to hit balls is the heated range on mats (everything is smooth off of a mat!). Overall, I would say the TM's will be a bit more point and shoot but still easy to work the ball. My biggiest fear was ball flight ballooning or hook happy like many modern CB's tend to be. No issue with either here, I love these irons man...BB

I would say similar in size to the AP2's with a lower ball flight...BB
