R9 460 w/ Oban Devotion 6 (05)

Bought a "mint" R9 460 9.5* cheap off ebay. Still had plastic on the head. Matched it up w/ a Oban Devotion 6 in x-stiff (05). Yes, that is snow on the ground so it maybe a while before I can give it a good test. Golf trip in Florida set for first part February, may offer the real test( along with the Penta TP ) Finished off w/ blue BCT Tour Velvet.

I'll add my new one on here tomorrow...got a PX 7B3 sitting here waiting for my 9.5* 460 to show up tomorrow. I've got the new Super Tri TP 1* adjust tip to try with it. I had been trying to decide what head to pair up with this 7B3, and for what the 460 is going for right now, it was hard to pass it up.

You are right about that. What do you think about that new tip? Is it all about weight? I'm pleased for now, the Super Tri is a great looking head. I had a R7 425 TP and used to play with the weights but, I have played the TBTP for 2 years and didn't miss the MWT. So I don't know. The SP700 titanium sounds more interesting to me.

 

Good luck with your decision. With that new tip why not give the 460 a go?!?

very nice combo you have there, I play pretty much the same set up and it has really helped, spin and launch are pretty much ideal and I find the R9 460 the most accurate driver I have owned

I am playing the same set-up. I have snow all over the ground here to so I haven't had a chance to hit mine yet either. Should be a good combo though.

Nice pick up edward! I am jealous! Also thats not snow that looks like a mild frost from where I am sitting! (where there is about 3 feet of snow out Grrrr) enjoy that thing and please, be mindful of the group in front of you!

Had a chance to hit the R9 460 indoors at GS. The initial results are good. The launch was 11.5* to 13* in most cases. Nice spin results (1700-2500 rpm). So I am pleased so far. Nothing outside yet but, a Florida trip is 2 weeks away. More

review after that.

 

The shaft itself was very smooth. Even though it is a 05 (x-stiff) it did not feel like rebar. Very solid combo.

I had Tour Burner TP w/ the Diamana WB stiff. I tried the R9/R9 TP when they first came out but, could not get better LM numbers than
what I already had w/ the TBTP. When the R9 460 came out I never hit I wasn't thinking about switch. But I got a "good" buy on this 460
I had to see if it would work. It started as a regular 460 so I knew the Reax shaft would have to go so I had a TP tip and found an uncut Oban.

Well, in a word: TERRIBLE!

I absolutely hated the R9. It upshot like crazy! The spin was off the charts--even with the PX shaft.

I've hit the "new" PX shafts in 5 different heads, so it's not the shaft.

Also, I had my 09 Burner TP with 6Z08 X along with me, and that combo was EASILY 20 yards longer.

I really like the 09 Burner TP, so I wasn't too upset that R9 didn't work out.

Oh well...at least the curiosity about it is gone now!

Thanks. That's interesting. I'm actually hitting my R9/XVS6 combo longer than I could have imagined, and was going to go the other way, to a Tour Burner TP with one my spare shafts - either a Fubuki 73 or Matrix HD6, to see how that compared. I keep seeing comments on how short and useless the R9 is, but my experience has been the total opposite, lol. Although I do concede that with the stock Fubuki 73, it was definitely not long. It was only after I got tried a few different shafts I was able to dial it in.

I still love my TBTP and with the stock Diamana stiff shaft it has been a solid driver. The R9 did not match it on the launch monitor but the R9 460 did. I thought I could improve that even more with Oban. Pretty pleased.
