Gatlinburg Tennessee

any ideas

I am going to Gatlinburg this September. Looking for input on what are things to not miss out on and what to avoid. Not necessarily going to golf just to relax and enjoy myself. I have rented a cabin in the mountains. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Bring plenty of Whiskey, Beer, and some good bluegrass music. You should be fine. Build a bigazz fire!!!

Do not go see Ghost Town in the Sky, because for about 20 years it has been a dump, the rides were dangerous, and it's now closed and really is a ghost town. Do some hiking, campfires, golfing, and relaxing. Not much else to do.

A lot of little shops in Gatlinburg. Nothing to brag about. Hiking is the premium here. Appalachian Trail, Mt. LeConte, or take a drive over to Cades Cove......Absolutely gorgeous there!

 

Golf: Eagle's Landing in Sevierville....probably the best in the area that I know of. Others may chime in on this.

 

There some huge outlet malls also in Sevierville (for the wife or girlfriend)---Tanger Five Oaks Mall, probably the best known.

 

There's plenty to do, other than the normal tourist stuff. You'll love it there.

I live 30-40 minutes from Gatlingurg. For golf they are doing some work around Eagles Landing and they have had to interrupt a hole or two so I would go to River Islands instead. For attractions I would make sure I went to Ripley's Aquarium. Other than that I would just look around when i got there and enjoy some of the locale and good opprutunity to people watch.

River Island is a must play! Try www.golf865.com for booking tee times in the area. Great savings! Also lots of shopping. Try the Nike outlets for good deals on golf shoes and clothes. I'm about 15 min. from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I get there way too often! Some of the shows are also pretty good if your into that stuff. DollyWood is also an option if you are bringing kids.

Definately go to Cades Cove...the views are amazing.

 

I also have to agree with River Islands golf in Kodak. I remember someone telling me when I lived in Knoxville that it was in GD's top 100 new courses when in opened. Great course.

 

Also, take a ride over the mountain to Cherokee, NC. It's a bit commercialized but there are some neat things to see.
