anyone play in one

I'm just curious if anyone has played in a Shamble. They are just hitting northern Michigan this year.
Did you like it? How was it set up?

The one I played in was set up where everyone teed off, went to the best ball, then everyone hit from there and then played there ball out. The best 2 scores on each hole where the ones that were recorded.

I've heard of one in grand forks.. same idea... everyone tees off... take the best drive then play your own ball out from there.. i believe only the best score counted though... and it's usually in october.. was supposed to go last year but a guy backed out at the last minute.. just like the previous year ;)

I really enjoy playing in them, i have played so many scrambles over the years that i like these as an alternative, better when you have 4 decent players, you can hide a weak spot in a scramble, not so easy in a shamble.

They are fun but it always helps to have a group of friends you are playing with I find that when pair with three others random people they can get intersting if you know what I mean.

Very popular for Mens Day at my club in Florida. We play the exact same format with the following rules added:

 

Foursome is picked from A,B,C,D handicaps (A=0-10, B=11-xxx,etc....)

Have to use one ball off the tee from each member on both front and back.

 

Very popular since most of the C & D members are older and enjoy a shot at the green in two when usually they are hitting 3 or 4 into the green. Two members of my foursome last time were 82 and 87 (I'm 41) and they were having a blast which is fun to watch, especially when the other groups were coming in for lunch and were congratulating them on a great score. On most holes they got two strokes and made quite a few pars and bogeys which meant a few net birdies and net eagles. Unfortuneately, that burned us in the end since we came in second by 1 stroke. A threesome picked our card out of a blind draw and made up 17 strokes to get us in the end.

I played in one for the first time a month ago...It worked like this...

Par 3 everyone hits and you choose the best tee shot.Then all play their ball into the hole and the best 2 scores count.Par 4 Take best of 4 tee shots and everyone hits from there.Then take the best approach and play your own ball in from there,best 2 scores count.Par 5 same thing but the first 3 shots are scramble then play your own ball in and best 2 count....It worked out great..Winning score was 20 under( we shot -16....It was fun....

There is actually one listed in my Pro-Am schedule this year in the Pacific NW section PGA.

 

I think it is a fun format, and allows the iron players to ride a great tee shot artist to a low score.
