Reorganizing classic clubs and golfers forums and subforums

Please tell us your feelings - positive or negative

Several months ago, GolfWRX recognized the growing interest in the use, collecting, restoring, and reminiscing about classic (read: pre-metal wood) golf equipment and lore by creating a special sub-forum of the Equipment Domestic and Foreign forum called "Hickory, Persimmon and Classic Clubs".

Participation in this sub-forum has grown significantly over these months. With that growth have come indications that with a few changes, this interest in classic golf topics could be nurtured even further with a few changes and additions to the existing Forum structure.

After consultations with several active members of the WRX classic golf community, we are interested in getting the reaction of the general GolfWRX community to the following proposal:

1. Creating a forum: Classic Golf and Golfers with several subforums (some existing and some new). The sub-forums would include:
   
2. The existing "Hickory, Persimmon, and Classic Clubs",
   
3. The existing "Senior Golf Talk",
   
4. A new sub-forum - "Classic Cub BST",
   
5. A new sub-forum - "Classic Club 'Deal/No Deal'",
   
6. A new sub-forum - "Classic Tales From the Rough" for stories about the senior tour and classic golf tournaments and golfers
   
7. The existing - "Hogan's Heroes Swing" Forum
   
8. A new sub-forum - "Classic Golf Outings"

We realize that this is a significant change in forum structure. Those of us who support this proposal believe that this restructure would

• allow the growth in this community by facilitating the sale, trade, and valuation of classic clubs without being overwhelmed by the enormous, existing BST of modern equipment,
• give those of us who have interests in classic golf topics a "one-stop shop" for expressing snd expanding our interests before moving on to more modern golf topics,
• collect the lore of our sport for future generations of golfers, and
• attract new WRXers whose interests are not currently being served elsewhere.

If there was enough discussion of hickory clubs, I'd agree. However as it stands well over 90% of the discussions are about classic persimmon and the like.

As it stands, I agree with the posted changes.

I'm for it. These additions and changes would definitely make sense and add to the current persimmon-hickory section we've created. Over the last 10 months, there have been a good size increase in interest as well as topics discussed to warrant this. Lets do it!

I wholeheartedly support the creation of the new "Classic" forum. Whilst not a hickory fanatic (yet) I do believe that a seperation at sub forum level between the "steel" age and the "hickory" age would be useful. Even if traffic is small in the hickory area to start with I believe it deserves its own identity and this will help it grow over time.

P.S. I think unless you are going to have a wider all encompassing "classic swings" section I would leave the Hogans Hero's sub forum where it is at the moment

I voted for, with qualifications. I think "Classic Swings" would be a better fit as a whole. I really enjoy the "Hogan's Heroes" as it is currently in the Swing forum. Maybe there is a way to incorporate the two or just keep them seperate?

I like the idea of the Classics BST and Tales from the rough.

I'm for it, though I don't really know that the Senior Golf Talk forum really fits with the others. Admittedly not a senior so I rarely look at it, and maybe those that spend time there know it better, but just quickly going through it I don't see much about it that fits with the other ideas.

If there were enough talk about hickories to demand a separate forum I'd be for that as well, but there doesn't seem to be much(if any) talk about that era. Though perhaps a new forum on it would draw posters who use them.

Smitty - I think this is a great idea and will draw new people interested in the Classics to WRX - there is no similar forum on the internet as far as I know.

Great idea. Hope the idea catches on. Much can be learned from the use and study of classic clubs. Looking forward to a redesign and easy exchange of classic ideas and goods.

That would be awesome. There's a lot of us out there with many many sets of old irons or drivers that are ripe for BST-ing. "I'll trade you my '67 VIPs straight up for your '71 Buttonbacks." Man that would be fun!

I think it is a great idea. Coming from a computer background the more sub directories you have the easier it is to find your files without having to use the search function..
