Glove or no glove?

I was thinking about this today - especially in the wake of Freddy's three straight wins. What is your take on playing with or without a glove? I've always worn a glove but last year I was in a rush to get on the course and played eight holes before I realized I didn't have a glove on my hand. Shot the best round of my life.

 

Since then, I practice a lot without a glove and feel like I can feel what the club's doing in my hands a lot more accurately. Thoughts?

I use a glove when I hit lots of balls in the range, or if its really hot outside. But otherwise, I don't like using one on the course. I get more feel without one.

The other advantage to me is I'm not always adjusting it or thinking about it. Now that I've played a little bit without one, the glove bugs me even more.

I agree. But its tough to argue the fact that 99 percent of pros use a glove! There must be something to that. I just prefer playing without one

99% of the pros live and play in a humid environment too. Living in a dry area (<18") rain/year, our humidity is low, thus I don't wear one, but if playing in a humid environ, rain, or VERY hot i will put it on out of necessity.

No glove here, no matter the weather. Cord grips as well. Never an issue. Much better feel.

Very true. It's dry out here and I'm not playing for money, otherwise my hands would be sweating, too!

Yeah, I like cord grips with no glove as well. And Freddie has always been my favorite player!

I tend to agree. My grip is looser now.

Salt Lake City is usually around 10-15% humidity in the summer. I don't feel like there is any benefit to me.

Glad to hear that others don't like a gloves. I have softer winn DSi grips that work very nicely w/o them. Also its a pain in the ash to take them off when putting.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I love wearing a glove, it gives me more control over my shots in my opinion and I feel like I can go at them with more power, sounds funny but for me it works. Probably all in my head, kind of like when you wear sunglasses.......

Not to change the thread but the ones who dont wear a glove and use cord grips what grips is soft enough that doesnt make you need a glove? or do you use no glove and non-corded grips?

I stopped using a glove since I could never find one that fit perfectly (I have a wide, thick palm but short fingers) and I was always adjusting it, pulling it etc.

Nowadays, a glove feels extremely funny. I also use cord grips and haven't had much trouble with humidity.

Played cord with a glove for my first 35 years. Have played cord without a glove my last 20 years. When I stopped wearing a glove, I felt such a freedom that I thought to myself that this must be how women felt back in the 70's when they quit wearing bras.

I've gone back and forth from glove to no glove, chord to non-chord. Tried tape on several different fingers. I even tried basketball finger sleeves for a while. For about the last two years, I've been playing tour velvets and a glove, but I recently switched to leather gripmaster grips and there is no longer any need for a glove. In fact, the leather is so tacky that my glove sticks to the grip when I don't want it to. It's really annoying and I've started playing with no glove again.

I hate wearing a glove but i have the clammiest hands... It really sucks. And when i do wear a glove it breaks in about 2 weeks cuz of the moisture.

No glove for me. Never liked them, and don't need them in W. Texas, but I dislike cord grips as well.

Freddy Couples played for a certain university in a certain ultra-high humidity environment called "Houston." I can't understand how he could even hold on to the club. He must lack any sweat glands below the elbows. I am in Austin and love playing without a glove. However, I can only do that during the short "winter" we have here when the humidity levels drop off. Outside of that, if I didn't wear a glove, I'd be searching for my clubs in tree boughs!

No Glove, even in rain. I keep new grips on my clubs and use towels to dry. Newer grip technologies are making it less necessary to wear a glove in my opinion.

I find that I have much better feel without a glove and am able to regulate my grip pressure much better.

been playing glove-less ever since and as to the quoted comments above, feel the same way

I wear a glove even with the putter. Just seem to grip the club better without having to hold it too tight.

Haven't worn a glove in 20 years...since I was 15. And I can't imagine going back to one. However, I've always used cord grips in the past and have switched to the Lamkin 3gen grips this year so we'll see how long those last. If I'm in a downpour I'll use the FJ wet weather gloves and I do keep a glove in my bag just in case it gets super humid but I've honestly never used it. A clean dry towel is all I really need on humid days....living in Ohio.

I have a set of rain gloves for when it is raining other than that I spend my glove money on golf balls!

No glove, and the cord grips I like are Lamkin Crossline cords. They are a little harsh on the hands early in the season, but after you build up a bit of a callus they are awesome, even in the rain.

Went glove-less a couple months ago and will never go back to wearing one. One less thing to worry about, better feel, and my grip pressure has been much better. I use GP multicompounds on all my clubs and have found no problems with this setup.

The GP multicompounds do seem to help when playing gloveless. But I'm finding that I am getting used to it with the Tour Velvets as well.
