Brandel would need to explain his comments if he is to have any credibility on the matter.

I would say technically speaking,Westwood has a very unorthodox swing which works for him.He has an early release which he has compensated for by bending his left elbow. If he were to keep his left arm straight without standing up through impact(which Lee doesn't do) he would hit the ball fat.

I would hardly call that technically perfect but it might be a valid way for players who cannot develop maximum trigger delay. It might well be technically "perfect" but only for players who can't help but release early.

Disagree. The best swing in golf is owned by Tiger. How much does he have to win to prove it? #1 player with the interchangeable #2 looking like his caddy. It's funny watching people criticize though. "Technically speaking" is crap. So many different swing concepts out there. Fact is, Tiger repeats his swing so well that when he actually misses a green or fairway his naysayers scream like a little girl to prove some point that the #1 player doesn't need. :) It's funny how his swing is ignored here.

Before commenting, we should hear all the words that came before and after that statement. Chamblee rarely says dumb things, but he will go off on a tangent to make a point.

If having the best swing means winning the most tournaments then tiger has the best swing, if it means hitting the the best shots under pressure then tiger has the best swing, if it means hitting the prettiest shots in the world then tiger has the best swing, if it means it means getting away from competitive golf for 6 months then coming back and being in the mix then tiger has the best swing. My point is Hogan never worried about having the best swing, it was hitting the best shots!!!! Please let's not worry about about what one body shape does in comparison to another, let's just worry about who picks up the most wins. Not one person ever talks about Jack's swing and the homeboy won 18 majors in the era of Seve, Arnie, Watson, Player, Faldo, Kite, Strange and price not excluding a myriad of other amazing players. Brandel doesn't even know who makes the best lemonade on his street!!!

Looks like Westwood stands up and comes out of it often. Great player though.

Brandel obviously has not looked at the slogan on your profile concerning keeping ones mouth shut. He is a buffoon.

Just because the man expresses his opinion does not make him a buffoon , i surely would listen to his opinion before yours even if i do not agree with it, maybe it should be you that should be quiet especially when it comes to making derogetory comments

LOL!! I think his head drop results in the bent left arm. I think early releases are most often the problem of a 20 capper. Looks like he's maintained the wrist hinge in this pic but that might just be a lucky swing! :D

Why would a head drop result in a bent left arm?I can name two players that have a bigger head drop and don't bend the left arm.Tiger and Sergio.I can name plenty more but I will leave it at two.

Early releasers are uncommon but does occur in some tour players.TGM calls them sweep release or circle delivery path players.David Toms is another example. You can judge for yourself if Westwood is an early releaser from this video.

Big difference between having the best game and the best swing, did Jack, Arnie, Norman, Seve or Watson, etc. have the best swing when they were the best in the world? IMO no, but they were the best. Tiger certainly does not have the best technical swing, but he has tons of talent, a great short game and putter, plus the toughest mind. Did Michael Jordan have the best jump shot? not even friggin close, but he was the best player. YOU DON'T PLAY SWING, YOU PLAY GOLF.

Westwood's swing is not even close to being the best, BUT he is playing really well right now, if he had any kind of world class short game he probably would have won at least a couple of majors by now. IMO Westwood has somewhat of a home made swing, BUT is still a really good ball striker. Much like Trevino, you would never teach his swing, BUT he is one of the best ball strikers that ever lived.

If having a good golf swing is putting the clubhead squarely into the back of the ball on a consistent basis, I'd say that Westwood's swing is pretty sound.

The dip and the bent left arm are quirks that he's had since his junior days. A bit unorthodox, but on his day he's as solid a striker as there is, he's arguably the best driver of the ball in the game today (cue some numpty saying 'what about the one on the 18th last night') and he is undeniably one of the best five or six tee-to-green ballstrikers on a week-to-week basis that you'll find anywhere.

I wouldn't say that he's got the best swing in the world, from a pure, technical standpoint, but to say it's piss poor is a bit silly. Thirty wins and a couple of Order of Merit titles suggest that it's not that bad, all things considered.

Last year or two years ago during the coverage of the Honda Classic, he said that Matt Jones had the best swing on tour and compared very closely to Hogan's. So which is it Brandle? Hell Duval, Scott, and DLIII have great techincal swings, but they are not winning. Winners have a swing that works for them and they can repeat is over and over again under the pressure of tournament golf.

Two things.

1. Calvin Peete and Ed Furgol hit it really straight with a bent left arm. Even Sam Snead's swing show his left arm beginning to bend through impact. So, perhaps getting the club head to hit the ball squarely through impact is a bit easier with a bent left arm.

2. Lee clears his body thorough impact as well as anyone in the game. It's no wonder he hits straight shots at the flag, shot after shot.

the guy is a bull.

Go Lee.
