It's off to a non-starter for a variety of reasons, but my own feeling is that he should go back to Butch Harmon. He played his best golf under Harmon's tutelage and Harmon is familar with Woods' game and his thinking. Woods' physical limitations and changes in equipment and technology have changed Woods' game since the Butch days, but I see a return to Harmon as being the sensible move rather than going to yet another teacher and another swing theory. Woods and Harmon have a history of enormous success together. Starting afresh with someone new is a shot to nothing.

It's not going to happen though. Albeit Harmon has repeatedly indicated that there is no ill will between them, I think it unlikely that he would be willing to commit the time that it will take to undo all Haney's work. Additionally, I think that Woods' pride will prevent it ever happening and I also see a conflict of interest when Harmon's association with Phil Mickelson is thrown into the mix.

Shame really.

Sean Foley.

He's based in Orlando. He's a year older than Tiger. And he coaches Sean O'Hair and Hunter Mahan (as well as Justin Rose and Stephen Ames). The reason I think coaching O'Hair and Mahan is a plus is because they are two of the best ball-strikers on Tour and they both fade the ball, which is definitely something Tiger should be doing. Hit a draw when the shot calls for it, otherwise his body and the way he naturally swings the club seem to be better for a left to right go-to shot. Just my .02, but based on what John Hawkins said last night about Tiger asking another player about his coach, it's a safe bet that player was either O'Hair or Mahan...

I kinda like Lynn Blake for the job. icon_salut.gif

He has a scary good track record of resurrecting professional careers without the need to overhaul the player's swing.

Brian Gay was an also-ran until his work with Lynn put him on the map and then in the the final Sunday pairing.

I agree. Lynn Blake is a consummate professional, and has an air of authority about him that Tiger would respect. IMO he would be perfecty suited to the job.

i think he will probably coach himself but i wouldnt mind seeing him with Butch again or even Mike Bender. Butch and Tiger were unstopable earlier in his career and Bender just so happens to be in Lake Mary right outside of Orlando and also teacher of the year...

he needs a video camera... that's it. with his money, a nice practice facility setup with the equipment to do it right, and he'd be golden (which he probably already has). by now he should be more then knowledgeable enough to correct his own swing. sure, you miss out on the ego stroking and banter you get with a coach, but fun and games are over... it's time to break jacks record.

once upon a time players didn't have expensive gurus that followed them around... they dug it out of the dirt. hard work and relying on some simple self taught keys was all it took. that's what tiger needs to do. get back to the basics and stop over complicating / analyzing his swing.... it's causing paralysis (literally)

The teacher at the Player's that was looking at Tiger's swing was Mike Abbott. He teaches Pat perez and also taught Mark O'Meara when Haney started teaching Tiger. He should go back to Butch, but with Phil in his stable we all know that is very unlikely. I am very interested to see who is Tiger's next instructor.

So let's hear some ideas of coaches, besides Butch, that Tiger should consider and why? Explain why if you can. I don't know any names..... Riggs, Breed, Malaska, Shankland, Craig Harmon, others?

Lee Trevino and Calvin Peete!
Not picking at you, but I really get a kick out of all this Trevino hype. Since when did he become an expert teacher? Just because he could play the game does not mean he could teach it. His ego is starting to remind me of Player. And it is an insult to those who have dedicated just as much of their life to teaching the game as he did to playing it for him to say that he could "fix" him.

No worries, im thick skinned.. Lee was ablle to take away one side of the golf course and all TW really needs is just an extra set of eyes. And by no means am I a PGA Pro, but everything Ive heard Lee talk about in regards to TW from years ago makes sense... Slowing down SS to take stress off knees, going back to power fade and playing more tournaments.. It makes sense and Ive never really seen an attitude by Lee, hes actually quite funny!
Jackie Burke- he would cut through the crap real quick and get his head clear. Tiger needs a father figure to kick his rear in line and Mr. Burke could do it if anyone could.

He needs to find it in the dirt like Hogan by himself.
He needs to get his personal affairs and life in order
and things will slowly start to come around.
If things with a divorce are progressing, he has more things
of concern than a sloppy swing at this point, i.e., an
amicable relationship with the children's mother and
the growth, development, maturation and safety of his children.
Right, wrong or indifferent!
