I know it's only a few hours into it, but I'm looking at the pictures on my screen of a course I've played a few times and seen umpteen days' worth of pro golf at via various PGAs and World Matchplay Championships, and I feel as though my brother's just walked into the house for the first time after having some rather questionable plastic surgery done to his mug.

You want to say 'It looks really good. I like it', because you know how much work has gone into it and how proud he is of his new look, but in reality you're privately thinking 'He looks like Kenny Rogers..'

Absolutely agree. I've always enjoyed watching all the events that were played there. The PGA and the Matchplay were my favourite events on TV next to the majors, just because of the course. But some of the new green complexes look simply terrible, not fitting the character of the rest of the course.
The 15th used to be such a great green, were you could easily 3-putt from 15 feet if you put it in the wrong place, although it looked rather unsuspiscious. Now it is just artificially tricked up. I've always been a fan of Ernie Els, but he (or his minions) have done a terrible job with the course.
And what about that silly water hazard left of the 18th green? I do not think we will see the drama of somebody going for it from a questionable lie in a bunker or in the right rough anymore. All that's missing is a windmill an a Chinese pagoda next to the green.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

Listening to Els he is not particularly happy; says he fought with the owner and his team over some of the extremes, including a lake stretching from the first stream to the front of the 18th; the "burn" seems fairly innocuous by comparison.

Its a classic with alot of history, should of remained untouched bar the greens,

dont recognise it on tv now, makes me sad that they can destroy a classic course like this,

yeah im all for change but Wenworth was so exciting to watch particulary the 17th and 18th, no itll take time for our views to change but still...

Karlsson just in with a 62 to take him to joint 1st place with 'Plodder' Donald, who goes off in just over an hour
Funnily, Karlsson went home after the 2nd round to Monte Carlo and only came back when he found out as he got there that he made the cut.

Robert Karlsson apparently thought he had missed the cut, caught a flight back home from London to Monaco, learned that he had made the cut and jetted back in a private jet, only to post the lowest score EVER on the West Course at Wentworth, before or after the redesign.

Fantastic play and red hot putting produced a 62 and second place going into the final round. Best of the week so far bya a 3 shot margin!

Might be a candidate for one of the best rounds of the year, especially if he goes on to win tomorrow... OK, so what, I'm Swedish and should have the right to get carried away! :man_in_love:

PS Thanks Mods for putting this post in its proper thread! DS

Wood and Karlsson, 6 foot 5 club.
Quite so, though I reckon Karlsson's just a tad taller than Wood, despite them both being listed as 6' 5"

I'd like Chris to hang on & win, but I've got £50 on Karlsson @ 16-1, which Paddy Power generously offered yesterday (when he was still on the 17th hole)

Absolutely agree. It looks like a "made for TV" hole now. It is not at all in keeping with the original course, which is one of Europe's great ones.

The same effect could have been accomplished with a waste area, and more gorse - much more subtle than the change that they actually made. Too bad, really.

Looks like a great win for Simon Kahn. Is the bigger story the fact that Luke Donald can't get the job done in the final round?

I'm absolutely chuffed for Simon Kahn, the guy is a true journeyman of the game and to post a final round 66 (especially with that putt at 18) is testament to how good a player he is. I think Wood and Donald bottled it big time and I think Karlsson was drained from Saturday.

Wood and Karlsson were all over the shop, and ultimately Donalds accuracy off the tee cost him big time which is a shame because he played some brilliant little touches and sand shots around the green.

kahn deserved the win , donald was poor off the tee all day.he couldn't hit it straight !! he threw it way with the 7 on the 17th which should have been a birdie hole !! wood and karlsson never got going either. a shave is what young wood needs. he looked scruffy to me with 3 days growth on .

Khan has always been a steady player, surprise he lost his card last year.

I don't like the 18th, looks strange.
