44 on a par 70; -26. Eight eagles. Still haven't eagled one of the two par 5's though so there's at least one more out there.

I've been playing at my home course since I started golfing (freshman year of high school), so this is my 12th season. I now work there as an assistant pro. I couldn't even guesstimate how many times I've played it.

I have eagled every hole except for the par threes (zero holes-in-one black%20eye.gif) but have birdied them.

It's not a long golf course, 6917 absolutely tipped out, course rating 72.5 and slope of 131. 4 par threes, 4 par fives, and 10 par fours. Links style course with a lot of wind, so when you get that summer time roll and a 30+mph wind you can drive some of the par fours or youre hitting flip wedges.

My lifetime best ball would be a 40 or 32 under par.

Go on then. I'll have a go.

After a bit of a think, as far as I'm aware my eclectic best ball score around my home track is another EA Sports job. I've birdied every hole at one time or another, eagled two of the three par 5s (the 570 yard 14th eludes me), and had an ace at the par three 6th hole. During one glorious 8 hole spell a couple of years ago, playing against my regular sparring partner, I holed two full six irons for eagle twos at both the 5th and the 12th holes. I remember both those shots as clearly as I do my old mate John's face when the second one went in from all of 180 yards. I can also remember holing a wedge at the second for an eagle two once, and I once canned one with a nine iron at the 8th. Tally it up.....

25 under. 46.

At my old place, where I was a member for nigh on 20 years, I've been more successful. Let's face it, if you're a reasonable player, with a solid tee to green game, playing 100+ rounds per year on average over a couple of decades, you're going to hole a few long ones.

Again, I've birdied them all at one time or another, and the 'extras' are: A couple of holed short irons for eagles on the first that I can remember; two or three holed pitches for eagle 2s at the second; a pair of aces at the 3rd; one holed second that I can remember at the par 4 4th hole; several twos at the driveable 5th and lots of eagles at both the par 5 6th and 7th holes (I once eagled all three, consecutively, in a scratch medal); several eagles at the par 5 10th; a nine iron ace at the 11th; a holed 4 iron (I remember it vividly) at the 13th; a couple of holed short irons at the 14th; lots of eagles at the par 5 15th; a couple of holed seconds at the 16th; and, finally, one holed approach at 17 (it was a corker too. A high, hooking 9 iron from amongst the right side trees that thudded down and toppled in dead weight in a club match that was all-square at the time) to cap it off. Again, tally it up...

32 under. 40.

Bah. I've never had an albatross but I've had a couple of shots into both the 6th and the 15th that ended up within a foot. If only one of those had dropped I'd be Mr 39...

It's bonkers when you sit down and tally it all up. Four over level twos. LOL.

My 52 doesn't do much here does it? cheesy.gif

It beat the hell of my 61. 9 birdies and 1 eagle with about 20 rounds a year on the course in the last 5 years. Guess I need to go to work on birding some of the par 4's that I haven't.

Speaking of the guy who has holed out so many times, I've never holed out anything from any of the fairways on this course and I think only 1 time from any of the bunkers. But then again I'm an 18.5 so I shouldn't expect too much more.

The one eagle was nice it came on the No. 1 handicap hole a par 5 of 510 yards, I had 225 left to the pin and hit a 5 wood with a nice draw to 10 feet from the flag, center cut the putt!!

Mine would be a 30 under lifetime score. No hole in one or double eagles for me.

Which one would you consider harder.... Double Eagle or Hole in One?
Double eagle for sure. Ive had a couple aces but never a double eagle. Though I know a few guys who have had them. Ive been very close though, within inches a few different times. I think one even lipped it because it somehow finished 4 inches right behind the cup from 250 out. :black eye:

Agreed, double eagles usually require holing out from 200 yards or more (I know it can be shorter just saying in general) where as a hole in one is usually 180 or under and you actually are aiming at the target in most cases, on a double eagle I don't know of too many players that are flag hunting :)

I will use my old home track that I played last year. Sadly no hole in ones or eagles for that matter even though I had quite a few eagle looks inside 20 feet. I was only a member here for maybe 6 months before I had to let the membership go after I was laid off.
Total best ball score was 56 par 72 only two holes that I did not birdie. One was a long par 3 220 yards came close a few times but could never get the putt to drop. The other I am convinced is cursed no matter how close you hit the ball you would always miss the putt I am talking like inside 2-3 feet was almost a garanteed miss. Fore_Life finally broke his curse there. I am still waiting.
Low round for me was 70 Fore_Life took claim to the the best overall score this year and to prove it wasnt a fluke he did it again the next day.

The 25 for 9 holes thread got me thinking about a perfect round or how low is really possible? For me I've eagled 11 holes at my home course (member for 5 years Par 72, 7000 yards from the back) and of course birdied the rest for a lifetime best ball score of 43 or 29 UNDER! Thats pretty low! crazy.gif Whats yours?

Is this AZ or MN?? The course you speak of.

Mine is 27 under. Boring.rolleyes.gifdrinks.gif

Regarding the frequency of holed approaches, and just to try and quantify things, after doing a bit of mental arithmetic I reckon that my strike rate for holed approaches is something like one in every 1400 attempts - or roughly one shot holed every hundred rounds or so when the whole thing is averaged over my entire time of playing the game.

Estimating an average of 100-110 rounds per year over the twenty-odd years I've been playing, and putting in a figure of perhaps a dozen or so 'potentially holeable' approaches per round based on my typical fairways and GIR stats (with pitches and long - say, 230 yard plus - shots discounted) it seems to be a realistic figure and, to be fair, it doesn't sound all that ridiculous when you tally it up and get some raw figures.

Playing perhaps 80 rounds per year these days, including early morning and late 6 and 9 holes sessions, it equates to approximately one approach holed every 15 months or so by the law of averages. And maybe two per year when I was young, keen and out on the golf course all the time. I'm a reasonable player, having played scratch and thereabouts golf for the last twenty years or so, and I'm probably a better than average all-round striker of the ball for my level of play, so there are a going to be a reasonable number of shots per year ending up somewhere near the hole and with some sort of chance of getting lucky.

One canned approach every 15 months seems a reasonable enough figure, albeit my two holed 6 irons in the space of eight holes from a couple of years or so ago now seems even more of a fluke than it did at the time. For what it's worth, I've had four aces in my life but I've never made an albatross, so I'm forced to agree with an above poster that a holed second on a par 5 is harder to achieve than the holing of a tee shot on a par 3.

The sad part of this story is that the current state of my putting means that I'm seemingly only marginally less likely to hole a full iron shot than I am a 12 footer for a birdie these days...

I had high hopes for myself when I saw this topic and thought I might be able to compete with the best of you guys, but not so. I looked back at my two home courses that I played for 4 consecutive years and my lowest best ball score for either course is -22 50. I was always a fairly short hitter as a junior and in college and there are two par 5's I never eagled.

Interesting follow-up to Mat's post: My averages are probably pretty similar to yours in that I holed out for eagle on a par 4 maybe once every 15 months when playing regularly. In one fluke of a summer however, I eagled 8 par fours with only one of those being with a putt after driving the green. The last time i holed out for eagle was 2006 I believe (just trying to jinx myself here).
