Some Handicap Fun

Just courios as to what some opinions might be. With regards to your handicap, in your present physical condition, what do you think your existing handicap might change to (if at all) if you played an average set up course, (not your home course) and walked this course 4 straight days ? Weather would be good for the four days, and pin placements would change from day to day. Pretend you have a caddy, and it's a 7000 yard course. You would be walking almost 16+/- miles in four days. Also, this would take place on 4 different courses over a 4 week period, with no cut line.

 

In my own game, my handicap would rise. Day 1, I would play well. Day 2 I would be a bit stiff, but play pretty well. Days 3, and 4 would progressively become more of a scramble situation for me. Week 3 would see me trying to get to the 19th hole asap. By week four I would probably be confined to the local spa, unable to walk to the 19th. LOL. Patch

Well that is a little hard to come up with an answer I guess not knowing since I never had to play four days in a row week in and week out on different courses. The walking doesn't hurt me and the course length wouldn't hurt me since all I do is walk and my home course is 7250 yards. I guess if I was able to play practice rounds before my four days of competition I don't see why my handicap would rise any. I played today for my 8th day in a row and overall my body still feels great and that is with me walking everday and pushing my bag on a 3 wheeler. So with a caddy doing the bag carrying and having him give me exact yardages I guess there should be no reason for my handicap not to improve. But if you were to say that we had to play four rounds without a practice round that would be a little hard for me to swallow.

Let me make sure I have this right- 4 courses, 4 days in a row on each course, over 4 weeks= 16 total rounds in one month.

 

Physically, I'd fine throughout all of them. If had someone else carrying my bag, walking off yardages, and raking bunkers- I'd play 36 a day! And I have been playing 36 the last few times out (Eagle Ridge+Coyote Creek Valley, then Coyote Creek Valley+Tournament) and tend to swing a little better in the afternoon.

 

I'd say having a caddy would help my handicap go down- my buddy Jim would pull clubs that I had a better shot of executing and help me with course management decisions. That's at least 4-5 shots (maybe more since I sometimes "aim" OB).

 

The first day score would be higher, but once I walked the course once, it should get better each day.

 

7000 yards would be a little long for me- I usually play the middle tees 6500-6800 yards. However, I have been bombing the driver of late . . .

I think with a caddy my game would improve, but even without one, I think my game would get better. Walking is no problem for me as I do it every day when I play now (sometimes 27 even 36 holes per day). Playing different courses that I have never seen before, sure I may have some trouble on the first day with club selection and managing the course, but after that first and second rounds, I know I would shoot some lower scores. By playing new courses you learn how to hit more shots, learn to adapt to different greens, and learn how to play smarter. Normally when I step foot on a course that I have never seen before, I tend to play much smarter golf then I would at my home course, just because I know my home course like I do the back of my hand, so in order to shoot a low score at a course you haven't seen before, you aren't going to be able to go for every par-5, cut every dogleg, etc. It would certainly be an interesting test, and I know by the time those four weeks got over with, I would be a better golfer than I was before week one.

The walking wouldn't bother me because thats all I do and I carry my bag, then if I had a caddy i would be able to play even better because I wouldn't have to walk of distances,carry my bag, rake bunkers and all of that fun stuff. The playing consecutive days wouldn't bother me cause I do that already now I'll play 5-7 days consecutive if not mroe depending what I have going on. So with all of that my handicap would go down.

 

The only problem would be very big for me is my home course is 6337 yards playing from the mens tees. So 7000 yards would be bad for me because I only drive around 200 so thatd be a lot and my short game would have to be doing really good or my handicap would go up.
