Monday quarterbacking is talking whether it's good when a player decides to go for it or lay up on par 5 (see Ricky thread). Pointing out terrible decision-making at the last hole of a PGA tourney by a PRO player who proceeds to squander sizable lead is not quarterbacking.
is there a skeptical smiley? i don't think there is.

LoL unless garrigus or fowler is posting in their respective threads, it's monday morning quarterbacking. it's not a bad thing, we all have our opinions.

but i'll give you a chance to clarify. what, exactly, is the difference between second guessing fowler laying up and second guessing garrigus' decision-making?
I'll clarify: lay-up or go for the green -- a player needs a birdie and can achieve it in 2 ways, either by going with long putt or chip shot at a cost of risky approach shot, or play safe and rely on accurate wedge approach shot and a good putt.

Ricky had to do it, chose a strategy, didn't go in. Second guessing him is quarterbacking.

Yesterday's meltdown: no credible strategy chosen, terrible 3rd shot as he could go for the fairway, then on the green and 2 putt to still win. It's not a matter of CALL. It's simply bad golf.

Can't make it clearer.
despite a valiant effort, you haven't really clarified anything.  you've just stated your opinion again.

whatever.  garrigus choked.  he made one bad decision and two bad swings.  in the end, it doesn't matter what fowler did.  it's neither here nor there.

It was sweat. He had that spot for basically the entire round. Bunch of guys were sweating bad yesterday. Must have felt nasty after the round!

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but that sweat spot on his A$$ was really distracting.

Gotta agree with Rafa here..........Fowler had a choice to make and we can his decision.......hence MMQ.......Garrigus just had a brain lapse and choked away a tourney.....no MMQ needed

sweet.

i agree that the circumstances are different.  the results are the same.  the aftermath:  very similar.

i don't mind being of a different mind.  if it weren't for disagreement, internet forums would cease to exist.  ;)

Aside from the 72nd hole meltdown and ensuing 4 hole playoff, was anyone as surprised as I was about the lack of attendance for the event? The blimp overhead shots barely had anyone in the frame on any of the days. Peter Kostis mentioned that the ribbons players were wearing were in support of the tournament. Is the St. Jude's Classic in danger of going under? It was hot and perhaps that kept people away...

I was there Fri, Sat, Sun....yes Heat Index of 110, so that probably kept some folks at home.

and yes, the Memphis tourney is in need of a sponsor or the tourney will not be held next year. Word is that they have 90 days to find one. They need a title sponsor bad. There is a few big companies with their HQs here in Memphis that one will hopefully step up and sign on.

This tourney's proceeds go to the Number 1 children's hospital in the country, St Jude, of course, an EXCELLENT, FREE, hospital that saves so many kids.....it would be horrible for this tourney to go under.

I'm a gallery marshal on the 16th hole and after Garrigus left 16 with a 2 shot lead I decided to walk up to 18 to watch the finish of what could be, but hope not, the last St Jude Classic.

As I got to the dogleg on 18 I found out Garrigus was in the water, which I knew was the only way he could lose after Westwood bogeys 17.

Every one around was saying just hit the 3rd in the fairway, wedge to the green, 2 putt, collect a million dollars. When I saw him aiming left I couldn't believe what I was seeing and when he hit the trees I thought he may have bounced OB.

I then realized I was witnessing a potential melt down of Vandevelde perportions. You had to feel for the guy and many of the crowd lining the 18th clapped for him all the way back to the tee for the playoff. He handled disaster with grace and as a result will become a Memphis favorite in the future.

That said many of us wanted Westwood to win the tournament because it gives the St Jude Classic more long term visability with him as the Champion. No disrespect to Robert Garrigus, but how many of you remember that Dicky Pride won in 1994 or Ted Tryba in 1999.

This tournament needs all of the help it can get and a lot of people care about it's future, I just hope it's enough people. Words can't describe the damage in my opinion Stanford Financial caused this tournament.

As far as sweatty drawers no one beat Steve Elkington who was wearing light gray shark skin slacks that looked like he had gone wading from the waist to the knees. I wanted to get him some Gold Bond.
