I know. Any player can miss the cut for any given tournament...but Phil has had opportunity after opportunity to snag the number one spot from Tiger and currently he is on the verge of missing the cut. WTF? I wanna pull for the guy, but come on. Flashes of brilliance are fantastic, but he still hasn't proven to me that he is ready (or ever will be) THE GUY!

You think that maybe his physical/medical problems may play a factor? The problem itself or maybe the side effects of the drugs he is taking could be affecting his play.

Phil claims he is feeling great right now. I do question how much he's been practicing, both because of his physical condition and because of what his wife and mom are both dealing with. His iron game seemed pretty rusty this week, even with short wedge shots.

Why does everyone care about the rankings so much, obviously Phil doesn't. If he wanted that number 1 spot he would have played more events this year to get the points.

Do you honestly think Phil doesn't care about the number one ranking? Seriously? Also, Phil mentioned that after two weeks of treatment "he was back to 100%". This was BEFORE the PGA Championship. Again, I wanna pull for the guy and he thrills me with those once and a lifetime shots (i.e. iron shot from behind a tree at the Masters that lands inches from going in the drink that essentially closed the deal for the tournament)and drives me insane when he goes for one of those low percentage thrillers and DOESN'T pull it off (more often than not).

Saying he doesn't care about dethroning Tiger and taking the number one spot just doesn't jibe with the competitive spirit that I have seen Phil demonstrate.

Apart from the Masters, he's had a terrible year. His entire game has been bad, bad driving, bad iron play, horrid putting. The only reason he's still #2 is that Masters win, and the fact that the contenders like Westwood and Stricker can't seal the deal either. This doesn't bode well for the US squad in the Ryder Cup...

Phil Mickelson will never be the #1 player in the world. If he didnt do it this year, which hes not going to do, then its not going to happen. Tiger isnt going anywhere anytime soon. By the time he is done being #1, Phil could be damn near 45 years old. Who knows what toll that arthritis will take on his body from year to year. Plus, battling the ongoing issues with his wife and mom will make golf be less and less of a priority to him. When Tiger loses that ranking, its going to be to someone like Rory McIlroy or Dustin Johnson.

Oh boy. I'll bite. Do you think that person that hands you your burger at McDonald's really cares how you are or what kind of day you have. How many people do you meet on a daily basis that are friendly but really couldn't care less?

I think that the drugs he is taking aren't doing the job as completely as he says. Plus the side effects are awful, I can't imagine being able to concentrate taking that drug. While it came to a head at or around the open, you have to wonder how long this has been getting worse. After the Masters he never seemed to be able to play decent for 4 rounds. Unlike Tiger's knee which can be temporarily fixed every 5 years (probably got one more fix left) Phil has a problem that virtually ended Bob Murphy's golf career. So the long term outlook doesn't look good. I would really like to see the PGA tours banned drug list--must only be illegal drugs since appears there is lots of use of hypertension, pain relievers (vicodin), sleep aids, etc etc... Enbrel is a pretty powerful drug that does have side effects. I guess in a way it technically could be called a performance drug. Without it Phil can't perform..
