Going to Colorado Springs for a month... any good courses?

It isn't exactly in Colorado Springs, but check out Arrow Head. It was built within the redrocks of Colorado. For some pics go to www.arrowphotos.com and check out the Golf Course section. It is an amazing site.

It's probably about 2 hours from Colorado Springs, but trust me, its well worth it. If I remember right, its about 45 minutes north of Denver. Its a Trent Jones course, so it isn't easy. I played 36 holes in one day, and probably lost about 8 balls. There is one hole where you tee off from a small gap in the rocks and it opens up with a carry over water. Absolutely beautiful.

 

Also, you can play Omni Interlocken. It is just outside of Lousiville. John Elway used to hold his tournament there. I'm not sure if he still does. Its a pretty awesome course.

Try Antler Creek in Peyton, about 10 miles east of CS. Its a challenge with the tips measuring 8400 yards. And of course there is always the famous Broadmore in CS.

Arrowhead is really cool, but the condition of the course tends to vary. And it's actually SW of Denver, not north. Down around the Springs, the Broadmoor is the big one, in fact it's usually listed as the #1 course in Colorado. The Omni Interlocken is nice, but I don't know that it's worth the drive from the Springs. There's a few nice courses up north of Denver, but again, that's a drive.

my vote would be to play the air force academy. has 36 of the best holes anywhere. can'nt get on, drop down to pueblo and play walking stick.

Here are a couple others to consider:

• Red Hawk Ridge - near Bear Dance (Castle Rock, North of Colo Springs). Has a great layout and awesome views (http://www.crgov.com/SectionIndex.asp?SectionID=41)
  

• The Ridge at Castle Pines North (sister courses to Castle Pines former home of the International :lol: . Similar layout to above. Check out the virtual tour (http://www.golfexperience.com/theridge/tr1.htm)
  

• Inverness - near Denver Tech center north of Castle Rock and the Springs. Used to host Colorado Open. Good, challenging classic course. Not sure if you have to stay at the hotel to play it...my buddy used to work in the PS so I got on without issue. Here's a virtual tour (http://www.golfexperience.com/inverness/ig1.htm)
  

• Murphy Creek - NE of CRock and CSprings. Can be a really tough course when the wind is up. It's a links style layout...not many trees but nasty rough and long from the tips. Will host the 2008 US Pub Linx Chmpshps. Here is a virtual tour (http://www.golfexperience.com/murphycreek/mc1.htm)
  

Agree on Broadmoor, Bear Dance and The Air Force Academy courses (called Eisenhower GC) they're awesome. The AFA course is a tough track, tree lined and lightning fast greens, at least the times I've played. Arrowhead is definitely worth playing once...totally amazing views but as mentioned conditions can be iffy. My high school team used to practice their back in the day.

 

If you get up to Denver or north of Denver, Riverdale Dunes and Omni (http://www.golfexperience.com/theomni/to1.htm) are awesome as someone mentioned as well as Green Valley Ranch (home of Colo Open) and Vista Ridge (http://www.golfexperience.com/vistaridge/vr1.htm). All are near DIA if you happen to be flying into Denver's airport.

 

Lastly, Fossil Trace is a bit of a hike but has some very unique and beautiful holes, check it out http://www.fossiltrace.com/ It's in Golden (west of Denver) but worth the drive one time.

Broadmoor! Just got done playing the west course, it played tough today! Any of the three courses there are great.

Bear Dance and The Ridge are nice and not too far.

For a muni, Patty Jewett is a nice track, nice old clubhouse and bar. Stay away from Valley Hi and Cherokee Ridge.

Kings Deer or Pinecreek arent too shabby either and were in great shape earlier this year.

Stay away from Valley Hi and Cherokee Ridge.

Anyone played the Peterson AFB course? Moving there later this year, saw on the web they have an 18 hole course and a par 3 course i think? Or does everyone stick to the AFA courses?

I have played both AF courses.. Very nice. Havent played Peterson.

Peterson and Ft Carson both have nice courses, but the best military courses in the state are at the Academy.

Peterson is a decent track, but AF academy Blue is great. AF Silver is fun, but usually play blue if I have a choice. Don't really care for Ft Carson. They seem to struggle getting their course in shape, and if you play when it's busy out there, you'll be stuck with a 6 hour round.

If you work on base you can walk Peterson's course for $17 after work (twilight). The holes are set up kinda repeatively but if your just looking to squeeze in 18 on a whim, its good. You have to go to the AFA courses though. Fort Carson would have a pretty nice track if they leveled out some of the tee boxes but there are some good elevation changes that play little harder with some of our S. CO winds that we get.
