The heel shafted blades like that aren't that different than an Anser style head.

I have an Odyssey #9, which is similar to a Del Mar, Maranello or 003.

Right now I'm playing with an Anser style Rife Aussie, but they all have a similar type of balance. i.e. heel shafted.

That 003 is NOT a mallet.
The Anser style heads aren't heel shafted they have almost forty degrees less toe drop than a Odyssey 9 compared to a true face-balanced putter like a Rossie. Agree 100% that the 003 isn't a mallet it's not a blade either. The lines seem to get blurred when describing putter shapes.

The biggest "thank you" Tiger can give Nike is by winning a tournament, not by playing their putter. The general public associates Tiger with Nike weather he plays their putter or not; so it's not like they have a lot to gain from that.

The hat on Tiger's head reminds me of the old clip of Tiger putting on Charlie Rymer's; too bad they weren't at least fitted...

I think we'll see Tiger using a Nike putter of some description this week. They've stuck with him and he needs to say thanks. Tiger wore distinctive Nike shades coming off the plane yesterday (which looked quite silly in the gloom) and is using a Nike putter now. Nike have lost a lot out of Tiger's troubles and it's payback time..
I agree with your comment mostly. Tiger should be grateful to NIKE. However, thats not who Tiger is. He isnt going to play anything unless he really thinks it fits his game. I think this speaks volumes on Nike golf equipment as a whole. The equipment is by and large, "good enough" that Tiger uses it for irons, wedges, balls, and woods. When the putter is "good enough" he will use it. I think NIKE is an excellent golf product and love the VR blades I just put in the bag.

Obviously to do with the greens in Wales, and they'll get slower and heavier by Sunday that's for sure looking at the weather charts. He won't be using in it the States or anywhere else that's for sure.
Only time will tell on that one I'm afraid. Unless you're privy to some inside info?
No , sorry kwak, I don't. :D
I remember him switching putters before and he mentioned the greens as to why. Was it the British Open? hmm can't remember. Didn't say anything about it in the short press interview, just mentioned the tall rough.

Those really are the most hideous outfits I've ever seen. Whoever decided all that mess went together should be fired!

That would be Captain Pavin's wife...not likely to be fired anytime soon. Plus, she's HOT! This just goes to show that men will pretty much wear what women tell them to. Trust me. My wife will drop hints of what she wants me to wear..and guess what?

Totally shocked! However, Tiger's always been a proponent of opening closing the face during the putting stroke so the mallet should be a better fit to his stroke.
Mallet putters are actually better suited for a straight back straight through stroke. Blade putters are suited to the open/close stroke.

One thing Faldo did get right was predicting a few years ago that it will slash it down in Wales. Judging by the forecasts I've seen we're looking at potential flash flooding on two of the three days. Could make for an amusing spectacle.

As Wood's putter, as I also use a heel shafted mallet does this mean my putter has just trebled in value?

But it looks like he is using a heel shafted mallet meaning it will have a good degree of toe hang, as with any blade.

Tiger is also clearly sticking with the slow greens needs the Method theory which served him so well at the Open.

Eh? Oh

Not a heel shafted mallet. They aren't even close to face balanced. Quite the opposite.

really? I must have a special face balanced, heel shafted putter then...its for sale if you're interested

I think the focus is on the wrong thing here, it is a HEEL SHAFTED "mid-mallet", look at him walking with it, look at the toe hang. This is definitely set up for his open-close stroke. Think Anser vs. Zing, Or Newport 2 vs. Neport 2.5. The toe hang is way different so it suits different strokes better. Mallet, mid-mallet, blade, whatever style of head, where and how it is shafted has more determination as to who a putter suits, IMO anyway.

Agreed. Still a blade style setup I was just pointing out that mallets are face balanced for straight back straight through. Tiger is the biggest believer of open/close. Can't see him using a true mallet.

Not that it really matters, but I think it's the other way around. Mallet putters that are face balanced are believed by some to fit a straight back, straight through stroke.
Exactly, a mallet is ANTI inside to inside...It made for straight back and straight through. A blade, like his old scotty, is made for the in to in stroke..
I have a scotty del mar 3.5, and I was taught and practise a straight back straight through style. Anyone that plays with me would say that putting is one of my strengths by a lot. I don't know what the putters is was meant to "try and do" but I know I practise on my house's baseboards and put extremely well that way.

And the Del Mar 3.5 is sweet!!!

Strange he isn't using his Newport since they play in Newport...

I Think TW is overdue for giving putters with more toe hang a try. Seems like he's been pulling a bunch of putts this season. Anyway I think something with a flowneck would be perfect for his stroke.
