Tiger isn't switching putters. Definitely interesting to think about, but Yahoo has a gallery and he has the trusted Scotty in all the pics I saw of him on the course. Probably just has the 003 as a practice one as someone suggested.

And on the uni's I think the retro is cool just not a big fan of the unstructured hats either.

GO USA!!!!!!

I tried that Nike heel shafted putter at golftown and the Odyssey Black #9 as I was shopping for a putter of that style. They are both very good and very similar and I could not decide between those two and the Scotty Del Mar.
I never cared for face balanced mallets. These are in no way similar to a face balanced mallet.

They stuck with him? He and his talent alone built Nike Golf into a billion dollar division of the golf industry. If Tiger stayed with Titleist and Nike tried to build that division without him they would have failed. The first five years they were building that division who other than Tiger played and won with their equipment? Remember the scrutiny and the quotes of people, Phil, saying things like "He is playing with inferior equipment" yet still winning. If he were not winning people would not have bought any of that inferior equipment. They stuck with him? More like they made billions off him and he owes them absolutely nothing.

Not a heel shafted mallet. They aren't even close to face balanced. Quite the opposite.

really? I must have a special face balanced, heel shafted putter then...its for sale if you're interested

Totally shocked! However, Tiger's always been a proponent of opening closing the face during the putting stroke so the mallet should be a better fit to his stroke.
Mallet putters are actually better suited for a straight back straight through stroke. Blade putters are suited to the open/close stroke.
I think the focus is on the wrong thing here, it is a HEEL SHAFTED "mid-mallet", look at him walking with it, look at the toe hang. This is definitely set up for his open-close stroke. Think Anser vs. Zing, Or Newport 2 vs. Neport 2.5. The toe hang is way different so it suits different strokes better. Mallet, mid-mallet, blade, whatever style of head, where and how it is shafted has more determination as to who a putter suits, IMO anyway.
Agreed. Still a blade style setup I was just pointing out that mallets are face balanced for straight back straight through. Tiger is the biggest believer of open/close. Can't see him using a true mallet.
A "true" mallet can be face balanced or have a lot of toe hang. That is the point the other guy was making. It is ALL dependent on what kind of hosel the putter has. There are plenty of mallets out there that are not face balanced or even close to it.

that 003 has been my holy grail this season, the heel shafted putters look great to my eye, i also have a cleveland classic bronze but the method rolls nicer so i use it more. something about the heel shaft flows so nice into and from iron shots. it used to throw me off where i hit a wedge into a green and now have to put with a center shafted or gooseneck or what ever putter. hitting a heel shaft is like hitting an iron which is most of the shots during a round, it just flows so nice throughout the round

+1 Hogan is really the only one who had any success, but for a limited time, Palmer failed, Nicklaus makes great equipment but I know of no one who uses it, mostly sells box sets. Tiger will be smart to stick with NIke.
Not that it really matters, but I think it's the other way around. Mallet putters that are face balanced are believed by some to fit a straight back, straight through stroke.
Exactly, a mallet is ANTI inside to inside...It made for straight back and straight through. A blade, like his old scotty, is made for the in to in stroke..
Wrong.......the Del Mar type head style that putter is has more toe hang that his Newport does with the plumber's neck. Thus creating more a need for a more open to closed putting stroke. I am a big fan of this head style and it definitely isn't even close to be used for straight back and straight through........

Now if it had the long plumber's neck of some of the older Del Mar's, those are face balanced.......have to have more weight towards the center of the head to face balance a putter.
I meant mallets in general, at first I couldnt see the photo in the beginning of this thread. That is more like a blade with a back flange, not a "true" mallet in my mind.

Yup, Tiger must pay Nike back for sticking by him. No way he would have changed otherwise.
We can only guess how the contracts are written. It might be that Tiger is free to use his classic Titleist as long as he likes, but if he wants something else, perhaps to increase weight or just to get something "new", he must go to a Nike putter. Looking at how Tiger perhaps felt when he signed that contract some years ago that was an easy commitment, probably thinking he would use his Scotty forever.

Otherwise I would find it strange that he obviously has tested both the Method 001 and 003 - if he were like most people (on this site and otherwise) he would probably have tested two putters from two different companies? Perhaps a Ping or Bettinardi?

Today, 29th, it seems he back to the Scotty.

The reaction to my suggestion that Tiger may feel indebted to Nike is interesting. Over the years Nike has needed Tiger and their golfing brand was created almost entirely on Tiger's back. Tiger, however, has relied on Nike and not just for truckloads of greenbacks. Nike helped create the phenomemon that is "Tiger Woods". If you think Tiger doesn't need Nike, ask yourself the following questions (and remember, apparently Tiger can use any clus he likes);

Would Tiger have done a Jim Furyk and bought a Yes putter from a store?
In fact, would Tiger switch his Scotty for a non Nike putter?
How long is it since Tiger used a non Nike club other than his Scotty?
If Tiger ever got a tattoo, would it be anything other than a swoosh? (I jest!)

The relationship works both ways and a number of posters have unwittingly touched on this by referring to Tiger's persistence with the Nike Ignite. Nike may have paid Tiger a helluva lotta greenbacks but Nike have also been the driving force in creating Tiger's image. The relationship is mutually beneficial but the balance of power has swung in the past year from Tiger to Nike and that's why I reckon Tiger is more determined than ever to give Nike prominence. He wants to be at the centre of thir ad campaigns again and he knows that they can rebuild his shatterred image..

Best quote I've seen on here in forever. I laughed out loud.

Back on topic. I would love to see him use a Method putter. No good reason other than I like innovation and originality, which is not Scotty's strong suit.

I think we'll see Tiger using a Nike putter of some description this week. They've stuck with him and he needs to say thanks. Tiger wore distinctive Nike shades coming off the plane yesterday (which looked quite silly in the gloom) and is using a Nike putter now. Nike have lost a lot out of Tiger's troubles and it's payback time..
Are you serious???? First Tiger has been wearing Nike shades from way back and second he has to use their putter to show his appreciation for their support?? He's decked out in Nike head to toe and plays all Nike clubs except for the putter. I don't think Nike lost anything because of Tiger, Nike still is in the same place it was before all of Tiger's scandals. Nike clubs weren't flying off the shelf even way before Tiger's problems imo......

What has Nike lost? Phil Knight said right at the beginning this whole thing will just be a miniscule blip on Tiger's career. It will have no impact and really wasn't that big a deal anyway. So to Phil it seems there is no impact on Tiger or Nike. No remarkable sales before the scandal and no remarkable sales after the scandal..

I'm not sure I would turn to Phil Knight to get an unbiased opinion. Yes golf is a small part of Nikes total turnover, but the value that Tiger adds (or added, depending on how bad you think his image is hurt) is far beyond the golfing products. This is one reason why Nike could outbid all other golf manufacturers to get him on their staff, the cost could be shared much wider than only golf...
