The heel shafted blades like that aren't that different than an Anser style head.

 

I have an Odyssey #9, which is similar to a Del Mar, Maranello or 003.

 

Right now I'm playing with an Anser style Rife Aussie, but they all have a similar type of balance. i.e. heel shafted.

 

That 003 is NOT a mallet.

 

 

The Anser style heads aren't heel shafted they have almost forty degrees less toe drop than a Odyssey 9 compared to a true face-balanced putter like a Rossie. Agree 100% that the 003 isn't a mallet it's not a blade either. The lines seem to get blurred when describing putter shapes.

 

Ok. It's a plumbers neck closer to the heel. An Anser 2 copper (in my hand) hangs at 45*. The #9 (in my hand) hangs about 15* more. Far cry from a 40* difference.

 

I forgot about the ole TPA 18. Did TP Mills make one too?

Uhh, if you are claiming that the mallet in the picture is face balanced, you are simply wrong. It has huge toe hang, almost 6:00. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Funny in the "old" days when almost all putters were heel shafted (pre-Anser/plumber's neck) that shape was indeed called a mallet.

Just because the double bend shafted mallet has become more popular does not make the BB16/Method 003/Del Mar 3.5 no longer a mallet.

It is a heel shafted mallet vs the double bend shafted mallets of nowadays. The mallet refers to the head shape not the neck.

Sort of like how people now call a Anser/heel toe weighted putter a blade when a true blade putter is an 8802 style.

The Hogan brand was light years more successful than Palmer, or Nicklaus, But I still would not consider them a top tier brand in terms of sales over the last 15 years. That was my point. Not going to threadjack further.

Exactly, a mallet is ANTI inside to inside...It made for straight back and straight through. A blade, like his old scotty, is made for the in to in stroke..

I have a scotty del mar 3.5, and I was taught and practise a straight back straight through style. Anyone that plays with me would say that putting is one of my strengths by a lot. I don't know what the putters is was meant to "try and do" but I know I practise on my house's baseboards and put extremely well that way.

You can still open and close the blade putting on a baseboard. (granted that your toe isn't a 2"+ and square)

It is the new NIke Method Core. I think it is time to switch to the nike putter for tiger.....but not the #3 Mallett. And yes, Why isnt Nike, Under Armour, or Adidas, creating these outfits...horrible!
