Driver Help...

First off, I want to preface this with the statement that I don't have the fastest swing speed with my driver. I'm probably in the 80 range and usually get about 235 off my drives. That being said, I have always played stiff shaft irons. But I've been told that I need a regular shaft for my driver.

 

So here's the problem:

 

I have an R9 10.5* with an Aldila regular shaft, Motore regular and a Motore F1. I've seen the most success with the Aldila but it's always the same thing - The ball rockets off the face gets to about 210-220 and drops like a rock. No roll. I've adjusted the TP and the non-TP shaft to lower the face angle but it doesn't make any difference. No roll.

 

Today, I took along an Adams BTY 4350 9.5* (Graffaloy Red stiff shaft) and my 905T 9.5* with YS-6 regular.

 

After a couple of swings I can usually adapt to the shaft differences but one thing really stood out - a lot of roll with the Adams and acceptable roll with the Titleist. The Adams launches at about the same angle and the ball flight is the same until the R9's typical drop from the sky. The Adams seems to roll forever.

 

I'm bagging the Adams for the next round but I want to know why this keeps happening with the R9. I had one decent drive with roll last week. Everything else just sits down as soon as it finds turf. Am I doing something wrong? My guess is I'm getting a lot of spin on the R9 and less on the Adams. Is that all it is?

Yes, most likely. The R9 that I had was not a great driver and did spin the ball a lot. It was a waste of money for me.

Both the 905T and the 4350 were made to be low spin. I don't know what the R9 was made to do, other than sell.

Was the overall length better from the Adams? How about dispersion?
