What is a good Loft for Long Driving

I have some house of forged shafts and i want to put a good long drive head in. Im not sure what a good Loft is. I game a Callaway 9.5* and i hit around 275 constant. But since in LD i would be teeing off much higher so it can be hit on the up swing. So im just wondering what a good Loft is to put on a HOF shaft.

 

Swing Speed is 106mph in a hard tempo and 120 in my hardest and my Ball speed was around 130-140ish

 

These spec's were from a trackman.

Its really the same question that we ask when we get fit for our gamer driver. Everyone is different. We have a few of the remax guys around here and they say the same thing. One of them uses a 7 and the other use a 6 or 6.5. I have even seen a 5 degree.

I wouldnt even know where to start to get fir for a LD Driver. Thats the problem. No store really sells Low Loft heads, its all online. I thought maybe someone could suggest something. Or does it really matter between a 6* or a 7.5* or even an 8.5*? I tried a friend of mines 9.5 Callaway with his HOF shaft and all i do is Balloon them to about 230 yrs. The just go really sky high.

Any Suggestions ??

What shafts do you have? I have a single X HOF if you don't have one and have an XX to trade. If it's just going to be buy and try, start with a 7.5. I even have a beat up 7.5 head if you'd like to try it.

Most LD guys want to launch it high with low amounts of spin. It sounds like you currently are hitting with too much spin. Lower lofts will help eliminate back spin but increase side spin unless you are hitting squarely. Like other post says you will need to try one out first and see. So purchase a good used head in the 7* range and give it a shot. You will need to up over 350 yards if you want to compete in the Super Senior division and tickling 400 yards for a shot in open. What do you have to trade and what head do you have ??

You should start at 7.5, maybe 8.5 at the max. Most LD guys will have ball speeds in the 180+ with the Open division in the 200+ range so don't start out with too low of loft. Was the 130-140 BS with a standard length driver?

The BS was with a Stock Stiff Aldila Habanero.

I have played on the trackman a few times and all the numbers fluctuate and some times by a decent amount. I just got back from the Simulator and i check my BS and Swing speed and they are up by like 15 for Swing and little more on BS. I dont know if its me or the trackman machine.

It seems like most of the LD heads are around 6 - 7.5 loft.

slowly work your way down in loft to get used to it as you go
and see what is the lowest you can handle-
here are some numbers from last years worlds-finals
there are alot of people that get there but...to be in the top elite-
here's an idea
1-64 are seniors numbers and 65 and down are open division guys

shafts flexes varied from 1X -4X+ on all these guys and lofts from 4.5-8.5

120 swin speed and the ballspeed is only 130-140 there is something major wrong here. Even at 106 with a smash factor of 1.4 would equal 148 ballspeed.

This question has way too many variables. Some grid conditions demand a 4* where others like the old grid at the palms in the afternoon would call for a 9*. A good starting point would be a 6.5 or 7.

What I would suggest doing is start with a 7 or 7.5* true loft head. See if you feel comfortable with it. Start it at 50in LDA length(48.25 USGA) see if you have control issues with it. It's easier to cut down than to build up. If you do launch monitor testing, key things to look for, backspin, launch angle, ball speed. forget about swingspeed, as machines vary. what to look for is 1700-2200 rpm backspin, 10-12* LA, and anything above 195 ball speed.
