How important is the lie angle on fairway woods?

It's a simple question yet I don't really understand why brands don't offer woods in different lie angles.

 

For instance I have my irons 6 degrees upright (I am 7ft. tall) so things are a little exaggarated over here. When I hit a 5 wood I almost have the grip between my knees and it's the hardest club in the bag. I actually prefer a 2 iron for consistency.

 

So the concessions in a 7 footers stance being obvious, I wonder if this, (even if to a lesser degree) goes for all players who have other than standard lie angles with their irons.

And are there brands who bend woods upright? Or is it a rediculous thought that this is better.

Take a look for a Sonartec SS-07 fairway woods. I believe the hosel can be bent up to 4* up or down... granted that is not the 6* you need, but that is definitely a step in the right direction. Sonartec went belly up some time ago, however, you should be able to find them on eBay... It just may take some patience. Sonartec makes some of the best fairway woods that I have use.

I like my irons 4* flat so I struggle with finding the correct lie angle in my hybrids and woods. Typically I just end up dealing with it and play them at standard lie.

Not rediculous at all. Lie angle makes a difference for every club, including the putter.

Remember that for every half inch longer in length a club is, it will effectively play about 1* more upright.

My suggestion is to find one of the fairway wood models that starts with a little more upright standard lie angle as their standard spec....and also has a long enough hosel for some bending. Then figure out how much longer you need to go, to get the best fit possible with all things considered.

TaylorMade's run upright for their standard and they can be bent. You just have to find someone who has a good wood bending machine. There's not many around, but they're out there. I know of a guy if you need someone, let me know.

Adams is another option that have hosels that are long enough and are bent in the tour vans all the time.

With standard (non TP) Taylormade's which have a .350 size hosel, you can also use these ferulle "shim" adapters that allow you to use a .335 shaft and angle the installation of the shaft for a more upright lie. If you used one of these in combination with a bend first, you may be able to get to the area you're looking for.

To answer your original question. It is important....but as the clubs loft become lower it becomes less important, still important however.

Some woods/ drivers etc. can be bent but there is also a good chance they will snap while doing so. If you can find a tech willing to try and they break it, you will have to just accept that is part of the cost of trying.

I had a friend who isa Nike Staff player get them to bend his driver flat for him and they broke two heads but got it on the third one.
