Playing with just 3 clubs in the bag!

Which 3 would you play with?

Alright so my buddies and I sometime like to go out and play a round with just 3 clubs just to mix it up and make things more interesting. I am wondering if you guys were to play a round with three clubs which ones would you choose and why. The only rule is that you are only allowed to carry 3 clubs with you for the whole round and this includes a putter as one of your 3 clubs. I am interested to see the combinations that people come up with.

I personally would go with the following set up:
Hybrid 3 because it is fairly long off the tee (220 or so), and I can hit it high into greens on those long par 4's. It is also awesome out of the rough, so if i get in trouble it is a good recovery club. It can also serve as good little chipping club around the greens

7 iron. I can hit this club around 160-165, so it has plenty of distance for lots of approach shots. I can also choke down an inch, and i have a 150 club right there. I also like to pitch with my 7 iron sometimes anyway when i have green to work with.

My final club was a toss up between a sand wedge and a putter. On one hand i thought I could just put with my hybrid, and i would have a club that would be good from 90 in, but on the other hand i lose the most valuable club in any golfers bag which is a putter. I decided to put the wedge in the bag because i need to chip it close, and i can probably put pretty well with the hybrid for a day.

I've tried it before and used hybrid, 8-iron, and putter. I found that the 8-iron was helpful around the greens in place of a wedge and I just have never felt comfortable putting with anything except a putter.

Depends on the course, but likely my 23* hybrid, 8 iron, and putter. Putter for sure since I don't want to waste strokes on the green trying to putt with a hybrid or wedge. I'd really have to see the scorecard before picking the other two. I would just pick the two clubs to maximize the number of greens I could go for in regulation, but probably wouldn't go lower than an 8 on the iron to allow for chipping.

Would seem silly to me not to use the putter since it would account for nearly half your strokes and I have never been comfortable using another club to putt with.

1 iron hybrid (Sonartec MD 17) - I'd use the 15 if I could find another but these are getting scarce - maybe the Bridgestone J33 equivalent (again this is scarce).
5 iron - Ping S58 (i can de-loft this thing for sand shots by swinging it the way Dexter Morgan swings a knife).
putter - Ping 1-A.

I'd go with a 5wood, 8 iron and gap wedge. I've actually gotten very good at putting with a wedge. Guess it says something about the state of my putting game.

One of my friends learnt the game using only a 1 iron blade, used to go round the course as a kid using only that club.

When I play with him now he carries 9 clubs and plays nearly every shot with either the 1 iron, a 9 iron and putter. Handicap is 9.

3 wood, 6 iron, wedge. Putt with the 3 wood.

I putt quite frequently with the 3 wood when my back is acting up. Made two birdies on the back nine one day with it. Should have seen the looks on my playing partner's faces. Priceless.

I think hybrid/ 2 iron, 7 iron and a sand/gap wedge is the way to go. I tried the tin cup challenge with a buddy earlier this year, on a 3,550 par 36 I couldn't manage even but shot a worth-while 40. Might have to try it again sometime, its a fun way to mix it up and really forces you to play the hole backwards

The hybrid is good for off the tee, can hit it about 220, and out of rough.
My 8 iron is about my 155-160 club and its useful for a little bump and run.
Currently putting good so I'd have to take it.

put with the 3 wood. I might lose 3 or so strokes with no having a putter, but the benefit of having a long club off the tee will more then make up for the difference

Driver, 7 iron, 56* wedge.

Day to day these are my 3 most clubs, and I'm very comfortable putting with the old belly wedge. Now if I was on another course, I'd have to see where the trouble was off of the tee, and substitute either my 3 wood or 19* hybrid for the driver. The other two would stay the same though.
