DL III the next Ryder Cup captain

Ya know- I don't have issue with DL3.....but I'm sure he would rather earn another ticket on the RC team without being captain.. That said I think we need to change our whole process of choose our great 'Captains'...by first giving the captainsy to the our most senior veteran who actually won something after the year 2008 or at least since the last RC...just thinking someone who has won, has and knows what it takes to win a again in leading our team...JAT

the captain is completely irrelevant, it's the rainsuits that will make or break the Ryder Cup. The U.S should literally spend billions investing in rainsuit technology over the next 2 years. It's the only way to avoid a repeat of rainsuit-gate at Ryder cup 2010

DL III sank the winning putt at the '93 Ryder Cup, the last U.S. victory on Euro soil. An uphill 6-footer, as I recall, breaking slightly to the left. He bashed it in with authority, and all the English fans went home and sobbed into their beers. I think that putt is what got him the captaincy. As for some comment he made about Paul Lawrie, who cares. He was right.

DLIII is a pro's pro, a consummate professional, a thoroughbred with a pedigree. Love watching him, and I really hope he is a playing captain.

I think the respect he has from, and the rapport he has with, other Tour players will really help him gauge what personalities will mesh together best in the pairings.

The selection seemed obvious, but I have my doubts. Seems like he isn't really dedicated to the sport like he use to be.

It doesn't matter who the US Captain is since the odds are that the US will lose, as usual.

DLIII comes across a a quiet type guy on TV who seems to be aloof from the rest of the players. So how is that supposed to make him a good captain? The US is in for a nice long string of Ryder losses when Phil and Tiger come up as captains.

Tons of respect for DL3 for what he's accomplished in his career and what he's endured in his personal life. Not sure I can picture him as the motivator to get the team focused on the goal though. You can see JMO firing up his team as his passion is a bit more present in his normal demeanor.

It's 100% certain though that the word "Captainess" won't be heard over the next two years which is wonderful.
