105-108mph swing speed...Can I hit a LD head?

I know that I'm probably going to get laughed out of here but that's OK. My SS is only between 105-108 but I hit it on the button 95% of the time. The problem I have is too high launch and way too much spin. I would love to find a 7.5* or even a 6.5* head but all I can find are LD heads. It seems like I read that the faces of LD heads are reinforced for obvious reasons. Can a guy with my swing speed use a LD head or are they just 100% out of my league?

I have the same question, except I have already put the combo together. Picked up a Adams 9064LD 6.5 degree head with a Aldila RIP 70 stiff shaft. I have not been able to hit it outside yet due to weather, but hope to tomorrow. It may get up to 50 here and I'll try it then. I have a Titleist 910 8,5 with a real Diamana whiteboard and I still really hit the ball high with alot of backspin. So I wanted a combo like you to get those number down. I'll post more tomorrow.

You can certainly hit an LD head. Geek makes a great head at a good price.

If you can get your hands on a Protopype, try it. I'm also a high spin player and it really helped me out. Good luck.

you have to experiment i am the same, i used the ping rapture 7.5, then i tried 9015D 6.5 and now i am gaming a 9016D LD version 5.5 with matrix code-7 257 cpm and is a bomber for me.

just remember the LD adams heads have a reenfored face.. i may hinder you more than help... they do this so they guys like sadlowski dont cave in a face after 4 or 5 swings..

This is 100% my concern! I'm not sure if my swing speed works for the reinforced face. It seems like you need to have a high SS to maximize these faces.

I think it would be worth a try. You may lose a little tramp effect but you'll never know until you give it a shot.

I would Try the Geel DCT heads they have a great feel ans are resonably priced also the Fail Safe 3 is a great head as well. If your interested I have several lightly used DCT 7.5 heads. PM Me if intersted

My swing speed ranges anywhere from 105 to 120 and I have no problem with the LD heads. I say go for it, I could not be happier with mine.

Hit whatever you want, if it works...

Just understand that the lower loft is likely a less than ideal substitution/compensation for a less than ideal impact condition...in other words, there's a much better solution out there if you're willing to work at it.

I am the first to readily admit that my swing flaw(s) are the culprit. I will also tell you that I am NOT going through a season of swing changes. I just don't have the time nor the inclination.

Well I finally got my 9064ld 6.5 on the range yesterday and I have to say yes I can hit it and just as well if not better then my 910 8.5 whiteboard 73 stiff. The only difference I saw was side spin, of course, alot more draw ball flight. Along with some slice. I put a 70 g alidila rip stiff red eye shaft in it and I really like the hang time, really gets up there and stays it seems. Its not gonna be my tight course club, more of a open course grip and rip club. But all in all I really like it, its fun and I put it together for like 220. So I think another 100 to 106 ss player like me could handle it.

Yes you would be able to hit an LD head but i would advise something like a Titleist 905s with the right shaft.

LD heads are the same as other heads out there, just lower lofts. Reinforced heads means reinforced welds...if you get too thick of a face, there is no spring effect to get max ball speed. So yes you can hit any LD head company, loft is a different topic. Remember the lower the loft, the less spin produced, so you need to make sure your ball speed is high enough or you lose carry. Look at Joe Miller's info, he used a 3.5 loft to win the WLDC and still had the Launch Angle at 12-14 degrees. But his ball speeds were 223+ and swing speed of 148+........

i have a SS thats slightly higher than you and i have the same issues with super high launch and ridiculous spin rates so i got a 7.5* 9032LD head and shafted it with an oban devotion 6 x and i murder that thing. it required a bit of lead tape to get the swing weight up bc its an LD head but its totally worth it

LD heads are great. Depending on the dealer, you can request the loft of your choice and they will hand pick a head that will match the spec.

Define too high and too much spin.....my SS is about 112-118 and I had the issue of launching it too high (13 - 15 degrees) and while club head might have some influence swing is more influential. A lot of people that come into the shop and I fit into drivers, the issues are high launch and high spin and it has more to do with where they make contact of the face and how they approach the golf ball........ive worked on my swing and now am not as steep into the ball with my hands more ahead of the ball and have lowered the launch down to 10-11 and my spin is almost perfect.......Hope you find what works for ya!!

Hi I ordered a 7.5 9064ld with rip 70 shaft last week and hopeing to get it tomorrow my swing speed is probably around yours.I messured with just the speed stick at 110-120 but doubt that is accurate so probably slower. Anyways Ill let you know how I make out. Hopefully get a launch monitor to get my accurate reading of my swing speed and ball speed.

Just put a 7.2 degree 9064ld with a 6a4 together and on the flightscope today...I too was worried about losing ballspeed with the reinforced face but smash factor was fantastic. I had no problems keeping it up around. 48 .49 .50. Really a great head from my experience so far

Well I just got my Adams 9064ld 7.5 with rip 70 shaft. Left work early today to goto the range and hit balls into the snow. As I said before I have a swing speed around 110 and was just crushing the ball with this club. I really like how the shaft loaded and unloaded and the trajactory was prefect. I was hitting from a really short tee and still had no problem getting it in the air. I didnt get a chance to get it on the launch monitor but may do it this weekend. Not sure if it will be worth it since the driving range balls r all frozen lol. Anyways I would def recommend this setup too anyone.
