Anyone Gaming a Hogan Sure Out

Found a Hogan Sure Out in the used bin at Golfsmith last week...almost new. Been struggling with distance control from the sand...so I thought what the heck for $24. Really good for chipping from thick greenside rough too.

Anybody out there gaming one?

Not playing one, but I think I still have one in the garage. Big huge sole, right? Should be good for fluffy, dry, loose sand. Absolute disaster for me playing wet packed sand.

My dad has a set of old Hogan Radials from the mid-80's and he had a sure out to round out his irons. Big sole is correct.

I have one, rescued on eBay a few years ago after I lost my '80s gem during a move. It's the same model I had. I didn't like the updated version of several years ago.

My dad uses the old Sure Out. When my bunker game is going bad -- which is often -- I'll grab it and normally the result is superior to my Cleveland. Lends itself to a confident aggressive swing. Significantly fewer thinned bunker shots, at least in my case.

I like it on full shots but never had that much luck with anything requiring touch.

I used to bag one, the one with a big flange that looked like the better looking version of the flying saucer. There were others that looked more normal.

That's the club I learned to use on every kind of surface, mostly because the looks disgusted me and I wanted to mess it up enough to need to change it. Amazingly, I learned to use it well and found it versatile but best suited for thick fluffy sand.

Very unfortunate that when I went into a long lasting romance with the eye 2, a friend passed by my home, took all my Hogans and left me an excessively high payment for the clubs without my permission.
