No, it is you who does not get it. There was nothing wrong with his interview with Macatee, and no justification for the demands of these people for him to say exactly what they want to hear.

Obviously, scrutiny comes with the territory of being a celebrity. It is unfortunate that it is no longer enough for people to simply enjoy the work that made celebrities famous, but that they now demand a piece of their souls as well. You yourself acknowledge this vicious cycle, and yet you still have no problem contributing to it?

The vicious cycle begins and ends with you yourself. If you resent the success that Tiger has achieved so much, it is certainly your prerogative to contribute to the vicious cycle. But just realize how petty it is.

If you don't think that those who cultivate a brand image are not part of the problem, then you are missing a big piece of the jigsaw. Who asked for all that stuff about Tiger's early life, his parents, the influence of his father, the commercials with voices from beyond the grave etc etc etc? Not me, but it was rather hard to avoid. All of these were intentionally designed to build Tiger's image and sell the brand, and many bought it. We also had the charity, Oprah appearances, brand endorsements carefully structured to fit the image. It was, of course, built on his golfing achievements, but if those continue to dry up, the brand value will shrink further and faster because the personal image is in the toilet. That may explain why a slightly more humble Tiger briefly emerged, and he did interviews with media outlets he previously shunned.

Tiger doesn't get to choose to shun post-round interviews, or be shirty and curt, but then also get softball interviews when it suits him to put out a sob story. He has placed himself in the media eye and there are downsides to that too.

Disliking the whole brand circus does not mean anyone is resentful of Tiger's success or achievements. He is clearly, depending on your opinion, the best or second best golfer in the history of the game, and there aren't enough IHOP waitresses or lapdancers in the world to change that.

You sure love strawmen. I don't resent Tiger at all and in fact have defended him in other threads recently. When people were saying he choked on the back nine of the Masters i called BS.

But he is totally unprofessional in the way he deals with fans and the media. Nobody is asking for a piece of his soul (yet another strawman). But they do expect some common courtesy.

You can't seem to grasp that Tigers actions over the years have contributed to the criticism he faces now. If Tiger dropped a duece on the 18th green at Augusta i am sure you would be arguing that he shouldn't get criticized for it.

I couldn't help but laugh after reading the last sentence of the bottom paragraph of the above post. Damn, I'd love to see that at Augusta with all those tight wadd old guys; there would probably be a lot of CPR being done, lol.
