Wedge swing weight.

What is yours?

Hey hey, thinking about wedges: I was reading a post by a chap who said that he has his wedges built up to a D7 swing-weight, and it got me thinking about swing-weight for wedges. So I thought I'd put it to the GolfWRX community and see what people think, what they use, what their preferences are, etc. Does anyone else swing wedges that heavy? (Hotmelt or lead tape?) If not, what swing-weight do you think is best? Anyone swing heavier? Let's talk wedge swing-weight shall we. Ciao.

I like the feeling of a heavier club myself, I think that more weight is your friend when it comes to helping your tempo and being able to feel where the club head is in your backswing ! Just my 2 cents !!

0.5 over is not funny....
- The cheapest way to make the "feel" right, is by using grips with a weight of 60 grams (or even more in your case)
Standard grips are 50 grams, but by adding weight here on the grip side (Counterweighting), the feel of weight DROPS, even if total weight goes UP.
Many players find comfort in more weight "in the hands", so don't be afraid to try it.

Tape a few coins to the butt end of the club and try it.'
- For every 5 grams you add, the FEEL of loosing 1 SW point will appear, but SW is still the same.

I play my LW at D8 Counterweighted to D5 (D4-D5 is quite normal)

You can either go with a heavier grip or add a butt weight port and use lead/tungsten powder to counterweight them. Basically you need to add weight back to the handle to counterweight the head being farther away from the fulcrum.

But what about those of you that are not adding length, just weight?
Are you doing hotmelts or lead tape?

I use either tip weights in the shaft or I use tungsten powder down the shaft with a cork. I can't stand the look of lead tape except for intermediate usage while checking how much weight I want. When I have it settled I either pull the shaft and redo the tip weight to what I want. Or pull the grip and go powder down the shaft.

I play my 52 and 60* at E0 and 56* at E1. I like them heavy.

I prefer D5 in the lob (58*) and D4 in the sand (54*) of course I am weighting them myself (tip weights). One swing weight isn't that much but that's how I build them.

i play my 56 and 60 and D5. i like the feeling now but, am planning to try them a little heavier. gonna use lead tape for now until i find the SW i like and then it's tungsten powder time.

I don't see the problem with lead tape. I gobbed a bunch on my wedges, and after it's worn on it, they look pretty good to me. Wedges are made to be the "beaters", so lead tape seems fitting.

BTW, I just tossed a bunch of tape on them and used them, added to removed tape until I got what I wanted. Ended up getting them on a scale and it was funny how close they all came out to each other.

53° SW is D6 (w/ lead tape)
and the 60° is D9

that will give everyone (myself especially) a better idea of just how much you're weighting your wedges down.

Indeed. there's lead tape on every iron in the bag except the 50 and 60°.

OP - I play the old "standard" lengths. a 37.5" 5i. 35.5" wedges.
Swingweights ascend from D3(5i)–D9(60°). swing very similar this way and just feel right to me.

[/quote] Yikes, but hey whatever works, I play my 54* at d5 and 60* at d6, which is right about standard maybe one point heavier for most manufacturers

I like all my wedges to be D5-6. I can play D4 but don't like it to be lighter. D0 and I suffer, so I'd rip the shaft out and put a tip weight in. .
