Too much emphasis is placed on having a coach. I think they screw as many people up as they help.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Sean O'Hair not only is looking for his game, he's now looking for a new swing coach.

O'Hair, who has missed his past five cuts and has not finished among the top 20 all year, has decided to split with Sean Foley after a relationship that began nearly three years ago in the Canadian Open.

During their time together, O'Hair won the Quail Hollow Championship and played in the Presidents Cup. But whatever had been going right started going very wrong this year, and it was time for a change.

O'Hair fired caddie Paul Tesori at the end of last year, and recently split up with caddie Brennan Little. Foley was next to go.

"He hasn't been happy with how this year has gone, and he feels he needs to make a change in direction with his instruction," Foley said Tuesday. "We had a good run up until the 2011 season. Sean is a good friend of mine. I love the kid. But this is business. I don't look at it from an emotional standpoint but a rationale standpoint.

"He has to do what's good for his career," Foley said. "He'll have my complete support, and I'll always cheer for him."

Foley more famously began working with Tiger Woods in August, and his stable includes Hunter Mahan, Justin Rose and Stephen Ames. For O'Hair, it was not an issue of time with the coach as much as it was wanting to change.

"What worked so well for so long...you keep doing the same thing and it doesn't work as well," Foley said. "It's like in the NBA. You win a championship one year, two years later the coach gets fired for having a losing record. That's the business."

Wasn't O'Hair with Leadbetter before Foley? So which way will he go - more towards stack and tilt or back towards something more traditional?

Not passing judgment here just asking the question. What has been his biggest problem this year? Shortgame or ballstriking?

O'Hair is just playing like warm poo recently. I'm not sure if this is a product of Foley being with Tiger, but Rose and Mahan are doing just fine. Sometimes you just need to make a change to make "something" happen.

looks like foley was done a favor. o'hair has gone thru 2 caddies in 5 months....sounds like he doesn't have confidence in anyone (including himself) and cleaned house to start from zero. i wonder if he'll rely on that sick golf studio in his house to be his own teacher

This is only news because he is now Woods' coach. This would never have been covered otherwise. In and of itself, no one cares (other than guys like us) who O'hare hires or fires.

I disagree, he was a top notch player under foley. This last year has been really tough going for him. It seems to me that he's out there cashing checks and doesn't want to win enough to sacrifice certain things.

TW won't fire Foley anytime soon. If anything his issues is short game. His swing is working well enough imo.

Iteach... any insight on what happened? Change for change sake? Problems with the technique? Where does Sean go from here without a major remake?

O'hair used to be the lead horse in the foley stable..... and since the new horse came on board it was only a matter of time before he wouldn't accept being pushed back..... this was coming since last August

I remember first seeing Sean O'Hair about 11 yrs ago on 60 Minutes - It was an episode that had Tiger Woods and his father ..... So here was this skinny 15-16yr old about to divorce his dad because of the intense work (torture) his father would put him thru in order to progress him into the life of a Tour Pro.

O'Hair in the interview said how he would have to run a mile for every shot over the score his father pre-determined for him.
He would run 5-10miles everyday before school and practice non-stop after school and that led to a distrust for his father.
O'Hair was taken in by his girlfriends (now wife i believe) father who took a different approach ....

Now i remember a few years back around '04 or so that i seen this kid on tour and was like WOW - he made it! Maybe he should look in good ol dads direction for a lil inspiration. I mean his dad took an approach different than Earl Woods but you can't argue the results i guess.
