Maybe Conn.'s BEST public course?..this place is pretty good!

I played Richter Park GC in Danbury, CT last week. WOW. What an awesome public golf course, far superior to many private courses that I have played. Interesting layout and design with a wide variety of holes. Pretty amazing that it was not designed by anyone famous that I know of. No houses, or very few but not really within view. Lots of water that comes into play. Some blind shots, local knowledge really helps with club selection here. Nice greens, and superb conditions. Danbury residents get to play for only $32 with cart. Outsiders pay $59 weekdays with a $5 proshop coupon. It was well worth the $$$. Here are A LOT of pics. They advertise that Richter Park GC is one of America's Top 25 courses; not sure what list they are going by though? It is definitely a GREAT course for sure. This course definitely rates as one of my all time favorites.

Great course...I played some Junior golf there...grew up in the town next door and work at the neighboring Ridgefield Golf Course....great track but watch out for the quick sand.

That place looks awsome! I never got over to Danbury to play there. I might have to see what I can do when I'm back in CT in October. Looks like some nice views! :cheesy:

I've always heard good things about Richter. I just never got around to play it. If it weren't so difficult for out of staters I probably would have. Is the quick sand still there?

Yes, quicksand is clearly marked on the back nine. On the same hole there are signs warining you NOT to go into the woods looking for sliced balls (damn I lost another ProV1x) due to bee's nests!

I made the tee time 1 week in advance via phone (out of state) and had to reserve with a CC number. fair enough.

BTW, I am a teacher and off in the summer!

2 or 3 more courses coming later this week!

I wasn't aware you could reserve a time if you weren't a resident. I'll have to check it out.

(A) Given you location, could that the picture be at Fisher's Island? Only seen it from the water, but I would love to play it.

(B) thanks for the great info on Conn. courses; I'm in Boston but am trying to find palces in CT to play with clients down there, so it's great to get some beta on good public courses.

A. My location is actually about 750 miles West of New Milford, CT. I grew up in CT, hence "FROM"...

B. My avatar is a pic of me getting ready to bust a "straight as an arrow" 285 yard drive at Arcadia Bluffs GC in Michigan, then I executed a perfect double bogey and tossed my ball about 150 feet down to the lake Michigan beach! That is golf I guess!

Excellent pics. I have been wanting to get to Richter, but by playing partners are a little strapped for time, and for all of us it would amount to a full day with travel. I may still get there.... How were the marshals? I heard they really ride people to keep up the pace. No biggie for me, but some of my partners might find it intrusive.
