Broke my trusty 3 wood

I broke my trusty old sonartec ss-07 15* bent slightly flat and 1 degree open, it was long and really easy to hit high and the old Purple Ice 85g X shaft seemed to fit me well, it being rather high launch mid spin.

 

So now I am looking for a replacement, preferably one that isn't too expensive, I currently put back in my bag my Adams BTY 4 wood 16.5* with X-con 7 in S flex. I think the shaft is a little too weak for me as I am having a hard time not ballooning it and stopping it from the rather hard lefts.

 

I was at golf town hitting a bunch of 3/4 woods and they all seemed kinda soft all with the S flex, My 3wood swing speed ranged from 106-108 I am guessing that puts me in the mid way between an X or an S.

 

So what I am looking for is a 3/4 that I can hit off both the tee and the turf, that is more or less anti-left with a stout shaft and not too expensive. Also something that is common in a big box store since we have a postal strike in canada an getting things off ebay is a bit more of a hassle.

I am loving my Tour Edge Exotics XCG-3 4 wood (16.5*)

You can get it with the stock offering of a Fujikura Motore Tour 80 in X flex and it's mid/low launch and mid/low spin. I would definitely recommend getting that shaft in X, the stiff flex felt too whippy to me and my SS is about the same as you (avg. 107mph w/ a hard transition from the top)

I have a Blueboard 73-x in mine now and it is good but feels a little whippy even in X-flex so I may put a Fubuki Alpha 70 in it that I have from a Taylormade club.

It's extremely easy to elevate from the deck and the stock shaft I mentioned above will play true to flex and keep the spin down especially when hitting off the tee.

I've gone thru a bit of a struggle trying to find a solid fairway wood over the years and finally feel like I have something I can keep in the bag for a long time.

906F4, it's higher launch than the F2, but it's more forgiving and easier off the turf. I've got a V2 335 hybrid S tipped 1.5" in there right now, but I'm still keeping my eyes open for a Pype in 80S or X. Sits open and still a really sharp, solid club.

If I was buying a new fairway wood today, it would be a TourEdge Exotics. I'd buy a 4 wood to drop the 3 wood and 5 and carry an extra wedge.....best of both worlds.

what is the real difference in the TEE between the CB3/4 and the XG series? Is it size? head shape or COG?

I've also heard pretty negative reviews in regards to their stock shafts, has anyone experience with their BLUR, RIP sigma or DI. They also seem very light (shaft weight)?

well being Canadian I can't really get this. Also I am not all that familiar with the Redboard, from what I hear it is a really good FW shaft (high launch, mid spin) but would a S be enough for a 3wood SS of 107ish?

Does he not ship to Canada? You could just put the Purple Ice back in, if you still have it! Keep looking on the Bay - a good 3 wood is as loyal as a dog.

I recently purchased a XG-V 3 wood and the clubhead is visually bigger than the CB series. Can't speak to the others, but the stock graphite design shaft in mine seems to fit me well and is pretty stout for the 65g weight its marked with.

Ya I vote for the tour edge xcg3. I bought the 3 wood and it's amazing. Got rid of the hooks and it's so easy to hit. Great distance and control. I have a very light shaft with high spin to help with control and so far so good. I could be hitting it so much further if I changed the shaft but I just don't wanna mess with a good thing.

Depends on how you load the shaft but unlikely, its going to play quite different to a heavy Purple Ice X - but its a good one to try. If you replace it with your purple Ice you will get close to your money back for the pull.

I actually live in an area without any local club makers, so repairs shaft swaps are quite expensive and time consuming (I'd rather spend my free time on the course).

I called my local golf town and they have a couple of TEE in stock with X-shafts, some 3 and 4 woods with the RIP sigma or the GD DI and I am going to go down this week and try them out.

If Canada post gets this strike finished I will probably snag something off ebay, I can't really stomach paying 350 for the club at golftown where it is around 225 or so online.

Not sure about your budget, but the G15 fairway is going for 170 right now. I just ordered the 4w with an Axivcore Red, which was only a $34 upcharge....quite the steal if you ask me! THe head is low profile, should be great off the deck.

Well the postal strike is over or at least the government forced them back to work, so I pulled the trigger on a TEE CB4 15* with the RIP SIGMA X flex. The price was good enough that if I hate it I think I can recoup the cost (got it for 215$ plus shipping brand new).

Anyway, I'll let you know how I like it once it arrives

I tried both the G15 and the I15, didn't really care for the look of the club. I hit them well on the simulator though, but no different than the Fast 10 or 909D2 which were about 1/2 the price.
