My chances of getting an amateur sponsorship

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm 14 years old and I'm about to be in 9 grade. I played on my high school team while in 8 grade. We finished 4 in the state. I play on a couple of junior golf tours: USJGT ( united states junior golf tour) and TGA( Tennesse Golf Association). I'm a 1.7 handicap and have never come outside of the top 5 in a tournament. I have won a few tournaments on the TGA.

Do you think I could obtain an amateur sponsorship? Im looking at Wilson Staff.

No. No offense to you, but there are NO good players on the TGA. I live in Tennessee as well.
Go play in the AJGA and see how you do on there.

They are legit +2 and +3. I only know one kid who is sponsored that just graduated and qualified for public links
and he fires scores 5 and 6 under par regularly in tournament play. Hell, in the SoCal HS championship there
were kids that shot under par all the time/way up and there were a bunch of kids that went under par and do it all the time and wouldn't even sniff a sponsorship.

I see you aren't from SoCal, much different story and ballgame.

if he fires scores that are 5 and 6 under regularly then he isn't a +3. He's a tournament +5 or +6.
It's MUCH harder to be a good golfer in Tennessee than SoCal.
Our weather is worse, our conditions are worse, and our courses aren't as manicured. A +3 here would probably kill a +3 in SoCal.
Do you guys even HAVE winter?

It depends where you live but not really, althoyht it doesnt prove anything. The arguement could go both ways because there are plenty of crappy courses and the amazing courses are never played at competively. Regardless, if you think a +2 and +3 is going to get an amateur sponsorship easily it just isn't likely.

Referring to the kid who is sponsored, I don't know what his handicap and never claimed he was a +2 or +3 but it just goes to show you it takes more than a +2 or +3. Let's just put it this way, nothing is guaranteed.

Or maybe sponsors think his attitude is crap.
Or his grades suck.
Ya never know.
I've never seen a TRUE +3 NOT get sponsored.

I'm not.
But thank you for making an ignorant assumption.
All I did was say what I had been told before.
A +3 WILL get a sponsor if they seek one out, have good grades(If they're still a student), and have a good attitude. I've been told that countless times.

Oh, I can guarantee I've been through more in my 17 years than you will EVER go through.
You do realize how good a tournament +3 is, don't you?
A person who regularly shoots 69 or below on any course they see is going to get a sponsorship, unless they lack one of the three things I mentioned.

Btw, thank you for posting just for the purpose of calling me out. If you wanted to call me out you should have done it through messages.
I'm expecting one of the mods to delete this post and chastise me in someway like they always do when someone calls me out, but oh well.

Yeah, actually I won't have anymore chances because I'm in college now. But, I did get asked about being sponsored when I was 14 because I had a tournament average of 73.84. So, yeah... maybe if I didn't have to go get a job as soon as possible I would've been that +3 that you so highly tout.
But by all means, tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just a speck of sand in your oh-so-oblivious world of wonder.

I never said someone above a +3 wouldn't get sponsored. I said a +3 would DEFINITELY get sponsored.
So, since your argument isn't even remotely related to what I'm talking about, go away.

Next Tiger,
Keep grinding and play in the biggest events that you can. You can get there without AJGA too. Enter USGA Junior Am qualifiers, Junior PGA qualifiers and other regional events. If you can play AJGA, mix some in too. The reps are at the bigger events. You never know when you might get noticed. One thing I will recommend to all is your attitude. You may not know when a coach or a rep is watching you. They really like to watch you when things arent going perfect for you and see how you act and react. I know for a fact many coaches and reps that wont consider a player due to their demeanor on the course. It could be the one and only time you are acting like a fool or mad, but that one time can cost you. Keep your head about you and keep a good attitude no matter how your round is going because a little immaturity can cost you dearly.

^ +1

I tried to do the college golf stuff and hated it, but I will say you'll never know who's watching you in the bigger tourney's around where you live. I played in the Missouri AM a couple of weeks ago and when you leave one green and head to the next tee and you see college coaches watching people (I saw MU/KU/and 3-4 of the Missouri Valley coaches out there), I'm sure there are equipment people doing the same thing. So I say get out and play in all the serious tourneys you can and act like a professional from the 1st tee to the 18th green because no one (school or equipment) wants to be associated with you if you're not.

This thread was useless. If you have to ask then you are not good enough. I like how the 17 year old said he was 17 and then denied it, and said SoCal golfers are not as good as tennessee golfers, he has no idea what he is talking about.

And there is no law that a +3 will get sponsored. you can be above or below that and not be sponsored.

He never denied his age, he was denying that he thought he knew everything.
