I haven't played well there in a few years. I'm a 2 hdcp. and shot 90 (cool) ;)

I think I was in 80% of the bunkers ;) My best round after Rees tweaked it was 76 and that felt like 69 :cheesy:

The course is NEVER empty. Since it's a walking only course it never gets backed up.

The course rating is 73.5/139 (white tees) 6700+, and 76.5/146 (blue tees) 7300+

The rough is the stickiest and most dense i've ever played out of. Usually anything more than an 8 iron is asking for trouble :vava:

Most of the greens are so flat that they are almost impossible to read!

Last October, I played the Red in the morning and the Black in the afternoon. I was very happy with the tidy 84 I shot on the Red (a very tough course in its own right), however, the Black just ate my lunch (102). By the time we got to the grill and watched the end of the Jets game, I was completely wasted from walking both 18's in one day.

For this Arizona boy, it was the best golfing experience of my life. If you ever get a chance to play Bethpage, don't pass it up. I also recommend that you give the other courses a try. The Red was a fantastic track and I was told the Blue is very good also. Although they allow carts on the Red, Blue, Green, & Yellow courses; most folks walk if the weather isn't too hot. Early October was a great time to play Bethpage. The weather was cool, the leaves were in full fall colors. The courses were in great shape.

When you stand on the 18th tee for the Black, you imagine how it must have felt for Tiger and the boys playing the 2002 Open. For me, I hit it in the right fairway bunker and ended-up with a double. It was fantastic!

Why post those pixs? You're killing me. ;) I'll be Farmingdale next month but can't play ... injury reserved for next few months. Damn! :vava:

I had the greatest golf experience of my life playing The Black. Nothing else anywhere has come close....but I have not been to the old grey toon.

I shot 85 from the back tees and felt like I stole something! I've never had more 3 and 4 irons into par 4's in my life! What at golf course!

For a similar feel, play Torrey Pines. Both course are the greatest feeling of 'golf' anywhere. No pretention, no condescension...just pure golf...but that sign at No 1 is a little intimidating!

Thanks for posting the pics. The course looks great.

I used to live in SD and played Torrey Pines South twice a week. I remembered once playing South on a last day before the course closed in preparation of the Buick. The 1st cut was 2-3 inches. The rough was a jungle. And the greens ... the dime size greens were made of marble. I can't wait to play Black in the near future.

Pics look great, what time of year did you take these?  Course looks in incredible condition.  I'll probably head up after labor day for a round.

Thanks for those awesome pics! Brings back a flood of memories from the one time I played it with my father. It was the best round I've ever played in my life....might not ever go back; just hold onto the memory. I was 2 under thru 14, then waited 20 minutes on 15 tee and proceeded to spit the bit.....finished double, bogey, bogey, par for a nice 74 (from the back).....ahhh, the memory is killing me! Just an unbelievable place. It truly is one of the best tracks I've ever played. It is a must for all golfers.....equivalent of Pebble, etc.

74 Is a great score from the back tees! I have never waited long on any hole there. It seems to play quicker than the other 4 courses :clapping:

The course looks to be in great condition. From the pictures it doesn't look that difficult, but I'm sure its a different story when you're playing there.

Don't let the pics fool you--it's hard!! I think something I didn't really take into account were the elevation changes on some of the holes. The 15th hole was a monster of a hike to the green. I played two Sundays ago and was crazy nervous since we had some people playing a practice round before the NY State Open. The rough was unreal as I hit into it on the first hole and made bogey. Parred the second hole and the round went a bit downhill from there. We played from the blues just to get a good idea for it and it was a blast. On 18 I striped it right down the middle between the two bunkers and was on in two before two-putting for par. A great way to finish off my round of 98. Played the red course the next day and it was awesome as well. A great layout with some very fun holes. Managed an 86 on that one and wish we could've played the rest of the courses. It's definitely something we'll do again and if you haven't had the chance I highly recommend experiencing Bethpage!

The Red and The Black are the 2 best Bethpage has to offer. Since you are coming from VA, if you play next time, just play those two again. The Yellow, Blue and Green are nice, but Red and Black are where its at, are the true tests of golf. I plan on playing all the colors this week since I am 15 minutes away, one for every day of the week! :drinks:
