I'll never forget Geoff Ogilvy's maiden victory on the PGA TOUR. It came at the 2005 Chrysler Classic of Tucson, in a play-off over Mark Calcavecchia and Kevin Na.

Kevin was eliminated after the first hole of the play-off and, as the TV cameras followed he and his caddy, as they were carted back toward the clubhouse, Kevin was balling uncontrollably into a towel which covered his face. It is the only time I have ever seen a male pro golfer crying over a loss.

Something strange happens in Kevin's head as he gets closer to realizing a much-coveted win. I mean, the guy is always a little tightly wrapped, but his brain just short-circuits under immense pressure.

In a way, I'd kind of like to see Kevin conquer his demons, and bring home his first title tomorrow. But I really like Nick Watney, and a third victory this year would be very sweet for Nick.

I like watching Kevin Na. He is unpredictable. From some of his swings it looks like he could never break 90 but can flat out play. Today, he looked like he was shooting 100 by his demeanor but shot 5 under. Haha. He is fun to watch on tv, however, he may not be the best person to play with during a tournament setting, but who knows. It's like Ari on the Entourage show. He is funny to watch on tv but hanging with him would probably drive you nuts.

Unconventional players are fun to watch, like Bubba Watson. The play the game their own way with little thoughts of following as sheep. They got that good by finding what works for them best so more power to them.

yep, he has earned more than 10M$ with that routine.

Interesting when people make assumptions on persons psychological stability based on what they hear or see on TV. With half of the discussions cut off etc. But at least it makes a conversation.

10M$ and no wins. I think it's fair to question his psychological stability in regards to winning. Regardless of what is mentioned on TV with all his talent it would seem it's something on the mental side that's holding him back.

Interesting topic of conversation I think...

Check that. On second thought, there was Brandt Snedeker at The Masters, and Hunter Mahan at the Ryder Cup. All embarrassing displays.

I wouldn't blame a guy for bawling for throwing a green jacket away or folding under the pressure of a Ryder Cup...but the Chrysler Classic??? Having said that, I think it's safe to say that Na will never be on a Ryder Cup team or win a major. Or win at all for that matter. Paging Dr. Rotella! Paging Dr. Rotella!

Yeah, they were all laughing at him, then tour officials came into the traile to review the swing to see if it was intentional or not.

Dude is a head case more than Steve Pate ever was.

I agree he is and has been a bit of a head case, but actually I think he controls his temper way better than he used to. He used to destroy tee markers, clubs etc. Seems to have calmed down some with age. When he shot that 13 or 16 or whatever it was, he didn't really even get angry. Na is an interesting character to watch.

That whiff should have been counted!
Not according to the rule.

In this case it was pretty obvious but there is no line on how close to the ball the club can pass.
As long as there is no contact, anybody can claim that they didn`t whiff the ball and it was just a na.

I think it should be treated the same as a baseball player who didn`t intend to hit the ball but failed to check his swing.
If you can`t abort the swing on the back swing or before the club gets past the ball, too bad.
Count it.

I've always been taught if an air shot passes over the ball its a stroke. I can't believe these guys get away with it and the PGA rule officials keep their mouths shut to avoid controversy. It's sad really...
Wow, you learned it incorrectly, hence, the Tour should apply it incorrectly. Does that really make sense to you? If it does, you're right, very sad...

Who has taught you? If you intentionally miss the ball then it is not a stroke.

So we just take his word for it?

Just thought of a question; If im out on a round golf and my playing buddy hit's a whiff shot but says there was no intention, how do we go from there?

You take his word for it. If he's lying, he's a jerk, but the stroke is based in intent. He either meant to hit, or he didn't and only he knows.

Also, there is no way a PGA Tour player would ever whiff a ball that badly while trying to hit it, period.

I would also think there is no way a PGA tour player would card a 16 at a par 4 .

I have been taught a whiff shot is a stroke, to not intentionally hit the ball would either mean stopping the swing or taking a swing in any other location other than at address.

And if this is a question of ethics and etiquette (to abuse or not abuse the rules) then I have a hard time accepting someone's word who is not known for his professional attitude and his personality in general.
